Can Manny pull it off? TSS thinks it is entirely possible that his speed edge, and the fact that Oscar looked like he aged badly in his last bout, could mean trouble for the Golden Boy.

Pacquiao: "This Is A Blessing From God"

By Ron Borges

Apparently, Oscar De La Hoya believes in magic.

“I have to improve my speed,’’ the soon-to-be 36 year-old, six-time world champion said Thursday afternoon while discussing his now finalized Dec. 6 showdown with pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.

“I have to figure out quick how we’re going to neutralize his speed. I do have to adapt to his speed. I know he’s a very powerful puncher with both hands but the tricky part is his speed. I have to find a way to pull the trigger, the way Freddie Roach said.’’

Actually, what Pacquiao’s trainer said was that he no longer believed De La Hoya could pull the trigger. This was not idle speculation on Roach’s part or the rantings of some television talking head. This was one of the world’s best trainers speaking after having worked with De La Hoya to prepare him for his fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. last year.

What Roach believes he saw then, and what was reaffirmed for him during De La Hoya’s less-than-impressive victory over former junior lightweight champion Steve Forbes in May, was a fighter in the midst of the slow slide they all must face. He saw openings that closed before De La Hoya could get to them. He saw punches land that should have been slipped. He saw a guy, his guy at the time, fade in the late rounds against Mayweather when a sterner mental and physical resolve to keep using his jab might have brought him a victory. He saw, in other words, an old fighter starting to emerge.

None of those things guarantees Pacquiao, who Roach has long trained, will hold up against the punches of a far bigger man. It doesn’t guarantee that when he lands what were devastating power punches when they hit 122-pound and 130-pound opponents will carry with them the same effect against a guy who at one time was middleweight champion of the world.

But one thing that is guaranteed is that you don’t get faster as a fighter at the age of 36. You don’t get faster as a fighter when you agree to move down to 147 pounds for the first time in seven years, eight months and 13 days either. And you don’t get faster facing an unfamiliar southpaw style that has always given you fits in the past.

So if De La Hoya is relying on speed, rather than his superior size and his longer jab (five to six inch reach advantage), he is making another in what has become a string of bad choices in the lead-up to this match.

De La Hoya was looking for one last, shining moment, one final big payday when all the lights would shine on him. At first he hoped to make Ricky Hatton, the squat, 140-pound champion, his foil but Hatton wisely declined, perhaps realizing it’s one thing to be stopped by a 147-pound Mayweather but quite another to take on a guy who has most recently held titles at 154 and 160 pounds.

He spoke of perhaps fighting then welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, over whom he would also have held a sizeable advantage in height and reach, but Antonio Margarito beat him to beating up Cotto and De La Hoya apparently wanted no part of the winner. Had he opted for Margarito it would have been a very big night for boxing against a guy who stands the same height as De La Hoya and has the same 73-inch reach.

Instead he opted for a big night against a little man, challenging the 5-foot-6, 135 pound Pacquiao, whose reach extends only 67 inches and who began his career fighting at 106 pounds, a 24-pound advantage over where De La Hoya began his.

However, why De La Hoya opted for Pacquiao had little to do with his obvious size advantages, although that was part of it, and it had nothing to do with the supposed challenge he began to feel after Roach opined that Pacquiao would beat him. He sought the fight for the same reason he is still in boxing – it carried with it a projected record-breaking $100 million payday.

One can certainly see why that would be attractive because De La Hoya has been about setting records at the gate and on pay-per-view for years. To go out with one last such mega-attraction surely carried great allure. But the biggest question may prove to be whether that allure blinded De La Hoya to harsh realities.

The first is that you don’t get faster at 36, no matter how hard you train. At this stage he is a part-time fighter and one who is 3-3 in his last six fights, 0-5 in the biggest ones of his career and clearly beginning to slip. A few years ago, De La Hoya would have rid the ring of Forbes in five or six rounds. Last May he was forced to go the distance with him and left the ring with a bruised and swollen face from an opponent not known for his punching power.

Pacquiao and Roach both saw those things and viewed them in the same way Sugar Ray Leonard viewed Marvin Hagler the night he struggled with John Mugabi. They saw slippage of a kind that would create an opening for them.

“I saw his last performance,’’ Pacquiao said from Manila, where it was 2:30 a.m. when he joined De La Hoya on a conference call to announce the fight. “I think I’m faster and stronger than him. And I’m younger. I believe I can beat him the way I beat (David) Diaz (to win the lightweight title in his first fight at 135 pounds).

“The point is my speed is going to be effective in this fight. He’s taller than me but I believe I’m stronger than him. I think this is a blessing from God.’’

De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KO) may feel the same way and he may prove to be right but agreeing to go down to 147 when he struggled to make 150 in May and accepting Pacquiao’s insistence upon eight ounce gloves rather than 10 ounces seem unwise decisions designed more to force Pacquiao to accept a smaller split of the purse than he wanted.

Choosing to seek out perhaps the best left-handed fighter in the world was another unwise choice, one De La Hoya even felt it necessary to acknowledge.

“I have to keep in mind Manny Pacquiao is a southpaw,’’ De La Hoya said. “The ones I’ve fought in the past I haven’t done very well with. He’s the strongest, fastest southpaw fighter I’ve ever faced.’’

So not only is De La Hoya expecting to become faster at an age where all athletes begin to slow down, he’s also acknowledging that he must fight better against a left-handed opponent than he ever has before while at the same time conceding this will be the best southpaw he’s ever been in with. Are we missing some logic here?

Hagler made similarly unwise choices before the Leonard fight, becoming the only Leonard opponent to earn more than he did but giving away the edges he needed in rounds and ring size. Those conspired against Hagler and led to his demise. Whether the same will be true for De La Hoya only time will tell but Las Vegas oddsmakers opened the fight at a surprising 8-to-5, a much closer margin than many expected.

The other point that seems to have eluded De La Hoya was his contention that “This is not going to hurt my legacy. My legacy is already cemented. They can’t take back what I’ve accomplished in the ring.’’

That’s true but the question more and more becomes what exactly was that? De La Hoya became the most popular fighter in history, the largest grossing fighter ever, a guy who combined with Mayweather to earn more on pay-per-view in one night than even the great heavyweights. But his record is 0-5 in his biggest fights unless one wants to include the first fight with Julio Cesar Chavez, which would make him 1-6.

That translates into Thomas Hearns numbers, not Ray Leonard numbers. If Pacquiao were to find a way to beat him De La Hoya would be in danger of becoming what his business associate and friend Richard Schaefer once called his rival, Fernando Vargas.

The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions once said if Vargas did not win a particular fight he would “simply be a guy who sold a lot of tickets.’’ Sadly, if De La Hoya loses to the undersized Pacquiao the same may be said of him.

So then what? Where would he go from there?

Back to the board room or back into the ring at a time in his life when it has become a more dangerous environment than it once was for him? Thursday De La Hoya hinted he might do just that only months after saying in April “There’s not going to be no 2009, no fights after December…I know it’s the last time I’ll step in the ring in December.’’

That may still be his plan but regardless on Dec. 6 he will step in the ring at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to fight a smaller, younger, left-handed opponent hoping, he says, that he’ll be faster than he was six months ago or a year ago or two years ago.

If he is, he’ll be the first aging fighter who got faster after getting his orbital bone broken in his last fight.

Eastar:  I've never heard some one be so confident to get beat up, lol. I like this fight so much that I make make a trip to Vegas Just to see the slaying of the young Wacman....hmmm, that sounds like a good idea..Yadig?

LeonardoMarroquini:  Of course we could see another great matchups with the likes of Margarito or Williams. But I think De La Hoya has earned the right to do this and go out in a gimme fight (at least, thats what he might believe it is). But some stuff has been pointed out wisely, 147 pounds will be a difficult weight to make, 8 ouces gloves make it a more dangerous fight. And in the other corner is a man regarded as the best fighter in the world. Was it a wise choice? money wise yes, but the outcome might surprise him.

BigDaddy wishing you a Merry X-Mas:  It's going to be a Very Merry Christmas in the De la Hoya and Pacquiao households this December. I hope fans save their $50-$60 that this Holiday Turkey is going to cost and spend it on their loved ones instead.

Ridiculous fights after the Delahoya vs Pacquiao:  These are other ridiculous fights that should take place after Oscar fights Pacquiao. Chad Dawson vs Wladimir Klitschko, Roy Jones, Jr. vs Juan Manuel Marquez, Winky Wright vs Samuel Peter, Kelly Pavlik vs James Toney, Joe Calzaghe vs Ricky Hatton, Antonio Margarito vs Israel Vasquez, Paul Williams vs Jorge Arce. All of these would be great fights if you want to see Oscar and this SCAM!! BOYCOTT THIS FIGHT TRUE FIGHT FANS!!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
BOXREC:  All i gotta say is, don't count Manny Pacquiao out! True, De La Hoya has the size advantage as well as reach, but Manny has the heart of a lion. He's a true warrior who fought a who's who in boxing and ran through them like nothing. When Manny fought Barerra for the first time people didn't even know who he was. He went in and knocked out the mexican legend. Morales and cry baby JMM suffered the same consequences. I can't say Manny will win, but folks do not count him out! He will give it his all unlike Mayweather who runs his mouth and does nothing but run around the ring. This will be a much better fight than the Mayweather vs. De la Hoya fight. I lost respect for Floyd after that fight. Anyway, like i said, do not count Manny out!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
jake kamotta:  i like to see marquez vesus our teenage badboy neighbor. at least marquez will be able to do a knockdown finally. just one - for honor's sake. if he knocks down my neighbor even just once, even marquez eget's knoed down 4 times, i will give me wife to him including my toyota tercel.

Thursday Aug 28, 2008
aka f roach jr...:  oscar wont retire,he wants to fight pacquiao because if he wins ,he gonna fight mayweather in 2009 and that would be bigger fight because he beat pacquiao...you know business first.....money first.....its a strategy,,,,,but oscar i warned you pacquiao is not a easy one, if you lost it means you are already retired before you signed your retirement paper....hahahah like what happened to barrera and morales.....

Haters Stop Crying:  If you don't like the fight, then why the hell are you still posting comments here and reading the articles about it. Quit hating and stop crying cause you know you'll be watching come Dec. 6. Win or lose, you got to admire Pacquiao for taking this challenge. That is a mark of a true fighter. Those who hate on Pacquiao and wish him harm are nothing but sissies cause they don't have a clue about courage and how it is to step up to a challenge. And if Pacquiao wins, these same haters that say Pac will get KOd or beaten bad are going to be the first to say he beat an old washed up De la Hoya etc. etc. Quit hating haters! lol Just enjoy the damn fight
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
DARY:  Oscar is a great fighter no doubt about it, but time, age is now in his system wether he likes it or not. Pacman is a smaller guy but young, has speed, strenght, power and the blessing from above can simply pull the string. It's a fight between David and Goliath.
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
mayweather 3rd:  yeahhhh who is the best puncher....oscars big left hook or a straight left with right hook and a big job of manny........manny pacquiao UD...
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Avid Boxing Fan:  This is something new! New is good. I'll watch this fight. I'll cheer for the little guy(Pacman). It's great to see little guys beating up a bullies. I really think Pacman can be very compeyitive in this fight or even surprise the golden boy. So, let's just waint and see. Let's not conclude that it will be a freak show.

Fight Rec:  Ivan Calderon vs Nikolai Valuev I think this is also great fights!

Dr. Votts:  I'm starting to lean heavily to PACMAN!!! THIS ARTICLE TOOK A PAGE OUT OF MY COMMENT A COUPLE DAYS AGO. Once again De La Hoya is going to be weakened substantially at 147. Pacman is going to come in the ring in tip top shape. The key will be if Pacman gets to round 7 without getting cut bad or hurt bad Oscar is going to come apart. He is going to eat a lot of straight lefts and Manilla Ice aint nothing nice. The more he gets hit flush the more tense he's going to get the more he's gonna get hit (you see where this is going) . Oscar should've taken a tune up. He's too rusty fighting someone just the opposite. EASTAR NEEDS TO STOP HATING ON MY BOY. MAY IS RETIRED LET IT GO. Pac has proven to be a student of the game. He thinks when he fights and has gotten smarter and better every year. Forbes is no where near as powerful or explosive as Pacman and he gave De La Hoya a broken whatever?!!. I'm not worried about my boy at all and I'm lookin forward to this one. I can see Oscar slowing down in deep water and Pacman with his gloves up dipping , circling like a shark , all of his speed still with him and his power. If it goes past 7 it's big trouble for big O. Peace n Blessings
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
vic:  great fight... all filipinos, mexican and american should buy it. i wanna see a 5 million buys baby!!! lets go PACMAN!!!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
ben kisla:  this is one fight that will surely keep us on the edge of our seats coz we know Pacman is a slugger, he will attack the bread basket of DLH and will go for the kill via 10 to 12 rounds. unless DLH has rejuvenated his body and his will to win, we can expect a very exciting boxing match...hey this is not a basketball game...this is boxing...size doesnt really matters...speed, stamina, and the heart is what really matters!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
aaron, uk:  "Blessing from god." More like one night in hell. I just hope Manny escapes serious injury and can go on entertaining us. Also 8 ounce gloves aren't necessarily a negative for Oscar, it may just mean more damage on Manny. I think Oscar can take Pacmans shots (8 or 10 ounce gloves) I know Manny can't take the golden boys.
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Boxing Fan:  Stop being a Pacman hater he earned the right to fight ODLH! Whether you like it or not its gonna happened! "The first will be the last and last will be the first"
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
bongskie_parpz:  Mismatch or not i think De La Hoya vs Pacquiao would be a very memorable fight and would be one of the greatest fight that would happen in boxing history. Not just because they are the most well known and the best fighters of today but i think its because they would gave it all they have in this fight. And that what boxing fans want to see more action!!! Mabuhay Order of the Alpha

rez:  to whom who said RIDICULOUS FIGHTS AFTER THE DELA HOYA VS PACQUIAO --- GO TO DAMN HELL, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IS THE TRUE FIRGHT! IN BOXING ITS HEART AND NOT WEIGHT!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
mcemman:  Wow very nice article! It really depicts the true enterpretation of one's observation. I think too that PacMan speed will take its toll in the late rounds where the Golden Boy aging legs will really hurt him thus making him can't "pull the trigger!" a reality. There is no other better comment than a great trainer like Freddy!!!!!!!! He had known the two boxers and indeed having said it would mean a very reliable source for us! Taller guys doesn't necessary have all the assurance of a win! It takes talent, will and determination... and SPEED to win a game! SPEED KILLS!!!!!!!!!!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
rolly:  wow, what can i say, i hope manny does not get seriously injured after this fight, like his trainer Roach ,a victim of not knowing when to say no,look at his condition now. Is freddie wishing for for manny to be like him?Manny to us is an icon,we dont want a CRIPPLED iCON I hope Manny "s wife is mentally prepared to prepare for the worst
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Pacmania:  POWER & SPEED! We BELIEVE! This will knock the Old Oscar out of the ring. FYI, Manny is playing full 30-40 minutes of BASKETBALL in tournaments down south of the Philippines, making his moves with his natural (off-fight) 150lbs body. This would give you an idea how fit the Pacman would be in the 147lbs, he carries that weight so naturally easy. If Forbes forced a beating on Oscar's face on their last outing, then Pacquiao definitely could do it also, a disaster for sure for Oscar if ODLH's OLD KNEES starts shaking after ROUND 7. POWER & SPEED! I BELIEVE! (",)
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
SammyU:  Packie will knock out Oskie in round 9 for sure..........
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
JUNSOLUCIO:  TYSON WAS SMALL HEAVYWEIGHT,CHAVES AND WITHAKER ARE SMALL WELTERWEIGHT BUT THEY BECAME CHAMP.IT'S NOT ABOUT HEIGHT IT'S ABOUT POWER AND SPEED.DIAZ WAS A WBC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMP BEFORE KO'D BY PACMAN,HE SEEM'S LIKE FLYWEIGHT FOR PACMAN IN THAT FIGHT AND IN AN INTERVIEW AFTER THE FIGHT DIAZ SAID PACMAN IS A TRUCK..MANNY WILL WIN AGAINTS ODLH..ADIOS AMIGOS.
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Ronelo Cardinas:  It's worth watching knowing that both fighters have good credentials inside and outside the ring. well, ODLH got the huge advantage in terms of height, weight, and reach, but he wasn't ever fighting like PACMAN who knows the word KAIZEN, meaning "CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT". plus he is now much focus and dedicated and you've seen that in DIAZ fight. Diaz admitted that he can handle his punches but not the speed. sometimes you will see him infront, side, and back, that's how quick PACMAN is. In fairness to ODLH, but his last two fights were UNIMPRESSIVE! unable to wobble Forbes in twelve rnds. if ODLH will not work on his speed will be badly beaten by PACMAN by points if the fight would go to distance and by KO in rounds 1-5, because he is a one dimensional fighter which is a perfect target for a classy fighter like PACMAN... Let's just pray that they will stay healthy after the fight. SIRCARDS
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Diondre:  What's up everyone! I've noticed that people either love this fight or hate it! Well, count me in on the side that loves this fight! This will be an epic fight of grand proportions! You have the best pound for pound fighter in the world fighting a great former world champion in Oscar De La Hoya. I think people have forgotten that Oscar fought Pernell Whitaker who was a smaller man in stature and was 5'6". That was a great battle and the height difference was not a factor due to the fact that Pernell was able to outslick De La Hoya. That fight was staged ten years ago when De La Hoya was in his prime and much younger. There was also the battle between a prime Holyfield verses an aging Foreman. Foreman had an incredible weight advantage of 48 pounds not to mention the height and reach advantage, yet this battle was one for the ages which was an incredible match from start to finish. The match between Oscar and Manny will be very exciting and much more evenly matched than many people believe. It is true that Oscar will have the reach and height advantage, yet their weights will be pretty similar. Manny came into the David Diaz fight weighing 148 pounds on fight night. People are saying that he will lose his speed at that weight, but did we actually see a loss in speed or power for Manny the night he fought David Diaz? I don't think so! Get the facts straight people. NO! Manny will not lose his power nor speed at 148 pounds. Watch the David Diaz fight with Manny and you will see that nothing was lost. The reach advantage of Oscar will also be minimized due to the fact that Manny is much faster and due to the fact that Oscar usually fights down to the size of a much smaller opponent ( such as his fight against Pernell ) Peace! I'm outta here!......

TOMMY R:  RON YOUR AMAZING! PLEASE RESPOND! 0-5 in his 5 biggest fights u said wow!!!! just like u claimed every man that fought back against tyson beat him, i seem to remember oscar winning huge block buster fights with then current p4p king pernell whitaker a then undefeated world champion ike quartey and destroying a once beaten fernando vargas but u seem to just in the case of tyson ignore the wins and focus on the losses and lets not forget that both the trinidad and 2nd mosley fight were ones were oscar should have had his hand raised and this is coming from a person that respects oscar but is not a fan ok, while your at it take away pacmans huge wins over morrelas, barrerra and marquez and find reason to water down those great acomplishments- lets also remember oscar beat a 43-1 rueles a 32-0 genero hernandez and a 30-1 jessie james leija all hall caliber fighters and all in big fights before he went as you say " 0-5 in the 5 biggest fights of his life" ill leave out the 96-1 chavez because he was past his prime but that fight was another huge one in oscars career , dlh has always fought tough comp threw out his career and he won some and lost some but was always very competitive and never blown out or anything close to it, his 1st loss to mosley and his loss to mayweather were both fights he was winning the 1st half of but ended up losing close decisions because he faded late but call it 0-5 Ron, go ahead and discredit a 40-1 whitaker, a 34-0 quartey who noooooo1 wanted to face and a once beaten young fernando vargas all blockbuster career defining fights at that point in his career, 44 pro fights against cream of the cropp opponents in 6 different weight divisions w only 5 losses 2 of which were robberies and you want to spin your version of the story as a tale of oscar being beaton each and every time he fought a huge fight against a top opponent
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
AG:  These last 2 comments echo my sentiments exactly.....but Manny can beat Oscar, who looked pretty past his prime against Forbes, who is durable at best and is no dynamo like Manny.....
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Peter:  crap!! I was hoping Pacman would give Fahsan 3K Battery a rematch. maybe next fight!!!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Sodamn Insane:  Its the Golden Boys pretty face I'm worried about He should have just retired but the greedy one might suffer the pounding of his life . He is too slow and won't be able to reach Pacman . Pacman will be counter punching against ODLH

BigDaddy's sippin on HaterAde:  Honestly, I really don't like to drink the stuff (It's a little bitter). But I guess have hard time getting in line with the rest of the Lambs to Slaughter.I'm a Big Fan of Oscar and Manny and I just want to see them in REAL fights. Not this Circus Freak Sideshow some people are trying to convince themselves this is a meaningful fight. I guess P.T. Barnum was right, " There's a Sucker born every minute!"

b'gart:  this is an interesting fight.. i believe Roach knows better. GO PACMAN...
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
cescor:  I agree that size and weight matters most in this fight but one thing i'm telling youj Dela Hoya will surely go down in the seventh round. he ll lost all his weapon against the pacman. mark my word its the end of Dela Hoya. Dont take the pacman lightly hell eat him alive.
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
Ottog Hahn Matalam:  This is a very good article from a genius writer. Not biased but is based from intelligent observation. What can I say ? Everything has been mentioned. Oscar, get ready with excuses before surprises happens.

BoxingFanNorth:  Everyone is too busy hating on Pacquiao, by not being able to let go of the fact that "they" ( the media) keep portaying him as the "Mexacutioner"!! I was at the last fight with JMM, and I felt nothing but hate from the Mexican fans, sure you can wave your flag, be proud of your countryman, but some of the stuff I heard and saw down there was pretty disturbing! Pacquiao is and always will be a student of the game! He understands the history of all the great Mexican fighters who have paved the way! Not once has he ever said he was the "Mexacutioner", he actually hates that nick name! He's proud of his country and always fights for his fans, Filipinos, yes Mexicanos, and those worldwide! Instead of hating the guy, hate ODLH for ducking a real Mexican warrior in Margarito, and picking a fight with the "better chance for him to win" Pacquiao"! What a chicken!! I hope and pray that fight fans will see this cowardly act and cheer for the smaller, faster and younger Pacquiao! Stop the hate, just respect the natural talent regardless of his nationality and the country he fights for!! Grow up people!!
Thursday Aug 28, 2008
subic boy:  im very nervous about this fight, but guys im telling you manny will comeout the victor.manny is the best no matter what weight division..even that guy valuev the tallest heavyweight is no much to pacman....he eats 2 dozens of balot every otherday ,how can you beat that...pinoy power is for real...long live subic boys(asinan baby)(payumo clan)

MARVHIN29:  STOP this speculation!!!its a done deal already and the fight was scheduled,so lets see if the grandfather dela hoya can still rise in the occation...i believe manny will making a history to be the best fighter in the planet.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
lefty13:  This is one hell of a fight! Forget about the height ,reach and weight disparency. Its all about fighting their heart out and no running like mayweather did. Its gonna be a warzone i jst hope no one gets hurt. Yes, I will definitely buy PPV, Its history in the making.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Neil Papas:  Oscar is no longer the Oscar we knew several years back. Therefore Pacquiao can easily handle him. The three S of Pacquiao, speed, stamina and strength, are too much for dela Hoya to handle. This PACMAN-ODLH fight is bigger than the ODLH-MAYWEATHER fight.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
True Boxing Fan:  All the filipino's think Pacman can beat Mike Tyson, That's how sad this is. Any true boxing fan would not want to see this fight. Here is an example. What happen when Diego Corrales who was a 135 pounder moved up to fight 147 pounder Joshua Clottey, Corrales got destroyed, everytime Clottey touched Corrales he got hurt. No one is hating on Manny, All Manny has done is stepped up to 135 and fought David Diaz, the weakest 135 pounder of all the champions. Am I right or wrong, didn't Nate Campbell have all the belts other then the one that Diaz had? Remember Corrales was lightweight and Clottey was a welterweight
Friday Aug 29, 2008
petiksx:  I guess this will be like Chris Pontius and Weeman doing jackass on the ring... Anyway, Pacman learn's wisely and sharper in every fight...he can dominate the more jabs, hooks and combinations in a single round not to forget his left straight, and all of these is in natural speed and power. truly golden boy needs to ADJUST... AD more speed or JUST get the pay check. Well Dec. 6, 2008 is that day.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
NMJ:  this is gonna be an exciting fight every boxing fan should be wating for! but i rather buy foy pacquiao coz he is much stronger and faster than DLH. Speed and power are the potent weapons should a boxer possess. Long live the PACMAN!!! (IDOL, BARATO DAYON BISAN ISA KA KAHON NA BEER, INOM DAYON TA NI JET LI UG ERIK.heheheh)
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Joevienn:  Your right, we believe that Pacman can beat Mike Tyson because "US" Filipino's are always stepping up to the challenge and believing in ourselves like what Manny Pacquiao did. It's not being cocky to have so much confidence but it's our mentality to believe in ourselves, man, we believe. So I think it's not sad like the way you see it after all.

echo:  what we're talking here is who's got the speed!mike tyson in his prime kills towering guys.so height and reach wont matter.its the heart and SPEED.i'll see oscar kiss the canvass goodnight!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
yome fanatics:  Go Pacquiao! Get box cash from all over the world. You needed that not for your self alone but for your candidacy in 2010. Mahuhay, Senador Pacquiao!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
jim:  of course manny can handle OLDH pretty well. he has done it so many times,morales,barrera,marquez.etc. and again pacman has a heart of a lion that no one can equal.filipinos are like that!!take my words on it. pacman will annihilate dela hoya!!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
jim:  pacman will destroy oldh, trust me on that!!he has all the motivation in this fight.money, prestige and the legacy of beating the golden boy!!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Nino:  Yes ODLH is the much bigger man but he will be fighting at 147, he will drain himself out, too bad for an old fighter while the pacman will be stronger and can take a heavier punch because he's a beast in training and can eat all he can. I smell a Morales-Paquiao II outcome.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
aka L merchant :  hey..... you compared manny to diego coralles....coralles is not a p4p king..he is just an ordinary boxer...ohhh man...youre a false boxing fan not true boxing fan...where is diego now hes in heaven/// manny is a gifted boxer who becomes stronger and stronger a day after day///
Friday Aug 29, 2008
bibbo:  Overall i think pacman has the advantage on speed, power, style of throwing punches while dela hoya relies only on height and long reach. But remember when Oscar fight whitaker who only stand 5'6",while oscar then is already 5'10" and as much younger at the age 24 who won uninanimous decision, but on my view whitaker won that fight. This is one of the gauge that i am considering that pacman will win the dec 6 fight.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
victor:  how can you beat a man you cant hit?? SPEED KILLS!!! in out in out like the last fight against david diaz... manny in 9 rounds

BOTOISKI:  ONE THING I HAD IN MIND TO US FILIPINOS! JUST WHO INJECTED IN OUR MIND THAT HEIGHT IS MIGHT WHEN IT COMES TO BOXING? I HEARED IT ALWAYS AND ALMOST BELIEVED IT. BUT MY BODY ALMOST CARRIED OUT ME SINGLE HANDEDLY TO DISAGREE THAT TAUGHT. CAUSE THESE BODY WHOM I CONSIDERED MY TEMPLE IS STRONGER THAN ALMOST OR MAYBE ALL SIX FOOT GUYS I HAVE EVER MEET.. PLEASE PASS THIESE MESSAGE.. (" ,)
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Iskolar:  I will watch this fight even if the ticket prize goes 5x bigger than the usual. If it's Pacman, you know you'll get your moneys worth!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
sanoj:  To True Boxing Fan : as long as on the weight day, both weights at 147 pounds (though Roach wanted Pacman to be at around 144-147 lbs) they're equal !! so, don't qustioned whether the height and size of Pacman, or the advantage of ODLH because on fight night, it's the PUNCH that matter most...so if all you guys even your BIGGER, if you was caught with a big punch never underestimate it...anyway to all of you guys that saying pacman can't hurt ODLH, did you already try to boxed with the PACMAN? you can try it if you want, so that you can FEEL his punch...even if you're BIG..
Friday Aug 29, 2008
speed:  @True Boxing Fan... 100% crazy! Nobody thinks Pac can beat Tyson. Not even the nuthuggers.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Lindsay:  I'm a big fan of Manny Pacquiao, and I have been watching boxing for 26 years and have seen may great fights throughout the years(Local and international) and I have watched all of Manny Pacquiao's fights even when he just started as 16 y/o 106 lb fighter, he is one of the most explosive and most exciting fighter that we have today but delahoya is just too big and has all the advantages against the Pacman, delahoya has the height and reach advantage, he is the bigger puncher, he has taken big shots from big fighters, more skilled and has better ring generalship, the only advantage that the pacman has is heart but heart can only bring you so far, and usually a good big guy beats a small good guy in most days.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
aaa:  PACQUIAO WINS!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
MightyMan:  This is simple. To those who does not want the fight, do not watch or buy. I'm not fooled by this fight but instead, it brings color to boxing more. Boxing is a sport, so don't loose patience. Boxing is business, go for the money. Boxing is a competition, those who are capable can join. Stop hating Dela Hoya's decision and criticizing Manny's capabilities too win the fight. Just watch and if you don't get entertained, buy PS2 so you could pick your choice of fighters.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Gil P. Acosta:  Regard me as crazy but I sincerely believe this fight is a MISMATCH. At this stage of his career, Delahoya won't be able to beat a well trained Manny Pacquiao.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
busy bee:  for me,i'd better say,"oscar dela hoya, you should hire two, three or even four trainers to regain your faded speed to win over manny.people will laugh at you even your countrymen if you lost to manny 'pacman' paquiao".
Friday Aug 29, 2008
BOXING GENIUS XXX:  ohhh yeahhh oscar is big, talented and popular...and only stop once in his career at a boxer ...and where is that punch came through in the body......when you drain your body too much ....your body becomes weak...so oscar will come down to 147 pounds rather than to fight in 160....cant you see all pacquiao haters....delahoya becomes weak and dela hoyas weaknesses is in the body....thats why freddie roach want to make this fight do you understand now all of you pacquiao haters....do you know pacquiao well...MANNY PACQUIAO is a body puncher and if this happen delahoya can kiss the canvas in just 3 rounds do you understand.....if freddie roach will choose a fighter its definitely pacman.,,,
Friday Aug 29, 2008
coymax:  GO PACMAN by KO in late rounds..hahaha
Friday Aug 29, 2008
olins j:  Never, never under estimate the heart of a Filipino. And I believed Manny when he said that he can beat DLH. Manny has the heart of a champion. He will not back-out from any challenges facing him. He had proven that many times over in his past fights. This next fight is just an another challenge, but a bigger one. What will make him win? Not his speed, but his heart, THE HEART OF A TRUE FILIPINO WARRIOR.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
mayweather 3rd:  thats true BOXING GENIUS.....you revealed now why freddie roach want to make this fight....freddie roach want to push delahoya to drain himself to 147 because he already knew what happen next...the body of dela hoya will struggled...and then the weaknesses revealed..the body ,is the weaknesses of oscar delahoya and if its drain too much ohh my god ...david diaz becomes more powerful than oscar ....and if Pacquiao beated david easily , dela hoya is nothing.......Mark our words,,,,oscar will say its unbelievable its not me who fighting...its not my body..my mind is there but my body is missing.....l wont retire lets make pacquiao delahoya 2.....ohhh yeahhh big money..... hahahahha...business first , i dont care if i loosed because im a looser hahahahh
Friday Aug 29, 2008
randy:  manny will beat oscar it will be no longer pacman or mexicutioner it will gona be THE IMMORTAL MANNY PACQUIAO go idol mabuhay pilipinas

mexican brawler:  This will be a circus worth watching!! Pacquiao is not the clown, he is the lion! and for you Oscar, We in Mexico are hoping that Pacquiao would knock you out! Viva Pacquiao!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
ron borges:  Tommy R are you saying Ruelas was a bigger fight than shane mosley? are you saying genaro hernandez was a bigger fight than felix trinidad? Are you saying rafael ruelas was a bigger fight than Bernard Hopkins? are you saying fernando vargas was better than floyd mayweather? do you have any sense in your head? as for pernell, if you knew a thing you'd know he was compelte washed up at the time and did not win another fight in his career. After losing to Oscar, he then fought a no contest with Andrei Pestriaev afte testing positive for cocaine. he then lsot to trinidad and carlos bojorquez and soon after the law and went to prison. so there's your pound-for-pound champion. do some homework before you pop off, will you?
Friday Aug 29, 2008
rey santino:  I believe manny will win the fight against Dela Hoya. Trust me i tell you.Mabuhay Manny Pcquioa.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
lga:  manny will give dela hoya a great fight. just like his previous fights. he does not back down. he never surrenders even if he gets cut. if dela hoya does not back down & faces pacquiao, he will get bruises all over his face something he never had before win or lose. so, lets just watch the fight and after which, give praise to both fighters coz we will surely be getting our money's and time's worth.

Anonymous user:  You witness a fight between David and Goliath in person. go..go..go.. Pacman
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Limbarok:  HEY, Boxing fanatics. this is a fight worth remembering 50 yrs after. This would be a collision of two great fighters of different generation. This is a resurgence of boxing heydays. we should be proud to witness a great fight of two different worlds and and two different generation of great era of fighters that happens in our midst. First, different world means, they belong to two different weight and height they both excelled and second, they belong to two different generation and era because they differed in their primed days. Surely, this will be a christmas gift to all boxing fanatics for it will not happen for every 50 yrs of boxing history. The generation to come will surely talk about this universal fight 50 yrs after. Lets enjoy this gift.

BOXING GENIUS XXX:  my fearless prediction and comment to this coming fight is, its a MISMATCH!! for oscar..how can oscar beat manny pacquiao..if he is struggled to make 150 pounds and now going to 147pounds...im sad for you oscar...Manny is easily beating you this coming dec. 6...then manny pacquiao will NAMED the IMMORTAL boxer...after beating you he will go for ricky hatton after dispatching hatton next is mayweather jr. who will definitely come out of the retirement...if this happen its gonna be pacquiao mayweather.but i think its not big like delahoya pacquiao because mayweather wont sell tickets and ppv.people dont like mayweather....thats my fearless forecast...
Friday Aug 29, 2008
aaron, uk:  We must all remember that today the majority of posters have claimed Pacman will win so when Oscar smokes his boots don't go claiming that it was obvious and Oscar took the easy foe like alot of you usually do, example, Mayweather vs both DLH and Hatton when the majority were saying things like "This will be Mayweather's first loss." and after the fights changed it to "Oscar was too old" or "Hatton was too small" Alot of hypocrites on this site me thinks.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Paulansky:  This fight 4me is THE RISE AND FALL......YEESSS, The RISE of MANNY and the FALL of OSCAR. (regards sa mga taga 7 GATANG) GODBLESS.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Romsnake Halasan:  Filipinos in Thailand believes in Pacman. No question about the talents of Oscar. He is a legend but if Pacman fights with same intensity as when he domolished David Diaz which we believe he will, and with the 8 once globe that they will use, the face of DHL will be marked just as what happened to Diaz. I believe Oscar will face the canvass. In boxing, it's the fist that will do the talking not the weight. It's a crazy fight. Oscar will go home disappointed in his revence for Mexican legends that were demolised by Pacman.
Friday Aug 29, 2008

Radam G in Palawan, PI:  All my Pinoys, we know what time it is -- that will be PacMan Time! Big Money O is going down in lucky 7 -- go and bet on it. You know how we Pinoys do it -- break the bank! Going with Manny is getting the BIG MONEY. He will put a big knot on Oscar's head. And make our bank accounts bigger and our pockets deeper. We love Big Money Oscar. He'll make the money fall to us, as he falls to Manny. Oscar kneels to King Manny in LUCKY 7. We love you Oscar, but we just love Manny more. Oscar is The Golden Boy, Manny is the Golden Gentleman Holla!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Jay:  This fight is just ridiculous- and not in a good way. Reminds me of the story of Icarus. Courage and heart must be applauded, I agree, but there's a fine line between that and stupidity. Sure Delahoya might struggle to make 147, but come fight time he'll be walking around at about 155- 158. At that weight Oscar can take the punishment but the Pacman can't.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
kulapsa07:  that fight is a sham!! its all for the money..oscar..you must ashame of yourself!! fighting small kids..go, pick your own size!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
FightFanWest:  Joevienn, I like how you say YOU Filipinos step up to the challenge. I'm going to have to wait until this BOGUS fight is over to see if Manny steps up to a real challenge. It's not called stepping up to a challenge when you are stepping up for the money. Manny would fight Joe Calzaghe if Calzaghe offered him 20million. So keep it real! Manny is only fighting this fight for the money. So get off that proud crap! Paul Williams and Margarito would have taken less money to fight Oscar but we know De La Sellout doesn't want a hard grueling fight. Don't give me that crap about stepping up when ur boy Manny didn't fight the best at Lightweight.(Nate Campbell) How is that stepping up? So Keep it Real! Manny doesn't have the skills that you guys say he posses. What you filipinos have done is listen to the media too much and you are living a dream. 20 years from now Manny will not be talked about when we talk about the great Fighters! ONLY IN THE PHILLIPINES..One last thing, Just for curiosity...Since Oscar is fighting Manny at 147, then who out there in Disneyland thinks that Manny could step up and beat a real 147 pounder like Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams. Remember CRACK COCAINE is still illegal.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
tomas:  I think this fight would be a very good fight ...not unless the strategy of De La Hoya is to run till the end of 12 rd., cause I know Pacqiuao won't. He will be in his face all the time... So get ready guys !!don't be surprise if you can see De La Hoya's face like a fresh tomato cause that will be it ...I'm Mexican but I approave this message.... O HA!!!

DarKHolY666:  PACMAN wins 9th rd KO over ODLH! LOL!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
FightFanWest:  go get a job: You don't like to hear the truth do you. Well face it. Your boy Manny is not this so called great fighter that you guys are proclaiming him to be. Delahoya has fooled you that Pacquiao is so great! Remember Oscar went to Mayweather, Hatton and then to the very next midget that he could fight. NO! I don't like the matchup and I definitely wouldn't pay for it. Everyone should stream it because even the president of the WBC said the fight is a FRAUD! You hate to hear the truth. Maybe Oscar should have waited until tomorrow to see if Calderon would beat Cazares. And for the one's that said that filipino's step up to challenges. After Juan Diaz fought Acelino Freitas he clearly told Manny to step up and fight a young Mexican. Manny is a joke and so is his boss Freddie CockRoach..lol
Friday Aug 29, 2008
A N O N Y:  :::::: I'M BETTING ON THE "ELF" TO WIN THE "HOBBIT", IT IS JUST TOO OBVIOUS OSCAR WILL WIN THIS FIGHT :::::: PEOPLE HERE ARE FEELING SICK OF "PACDELIRIUM" :::::::: i'M NOT PAYING ::::::

TOMMY R:  YA OK RON GO BACK AND READ WHAT I WROTE I SAID THE QUARTEY VARGAS AND WHITAKER FIGHTS WERE HUGE IMPORTANT BLOCKBUSTER FIGHTS AND I SAID HERNANDEZ, RUELES WERE BIG FIGHT BEFORE YOU CLAIM HE WENT " 0-5 IN THE BIGGEST FIGHTS OF HIS LIFE" WHY DONT YOU MENTION QUARTEY OR VARGAS IN YOUR ORIGINAL ARTICLE OR YOU REPLY?????????? Friday Aug 29, 2008
pvramos:  I will definitely watch this fight bec. i like both fighters but i like pacman better. My curiosity is piqued. Will size and height matters or will speed kill? Manny will be in tip top shape like his diaz fight, he was about 148 pounds at fight time so his speed and power will not diminish. Question is? Will his punching power hurt dela hoya like his lighter opponents? I am also excited to see pacmans latest boxing prowess for he is an evolving fighter. He's getting better very fight. I hope pacman will be the golden boy.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
cmeshyne50:  go get a job, youre right we dont have to watch but we can definatley express our opinion about this lame matchup sure its interesting as far a a a guy moving up that much in weight but is that what we have come down to i mean what happen to fighting the best out there to be considered great putting it on the line to find out if you still got it
Friday Aug 29, 2008
bernard:  this will be a shinning moment for pacquiao. this is a must see for all you pacquiao fans. everything will be displayed from power-speed. if pacquiao wins he deserved all of oscars pursue.why????????? because...............yes oscar is one the best fight before but now he's one of the best businessman making money misleading people with his oldies mafia sport.. to oscar. you can mislead me onces your fight with maybadwether. but you can't mislead me twice. i know you are not serious with this fight just the pursue........and the prize is you'll get knock out.....no pain no gain brother.....................
Friday Aug 29, 2008
mr. dee:  i like to see oscar fight the undertaker this would make him a billionaire. money talks. he's not the same oscar the boxer before..........now he's a businessman.............
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Javier:  I am happy that filipinos have one good fighter ,the bad thing is only every 1000 years, so enjoy this one before Dela Hoya knock him out in 2 rounds just like Arturo Gatti, adios.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
ganiRENDS:  “I could not figure out quick how we’re going to neutralize his speed. I could not adapt to his speed. I under estimate he’s a very powerful puncher with both hands but the tricky part is his speed. I could not find a way when to pull the trigger, the way Freddie Roach said.’’ And last but not the list. Sorry fans,“I'm to old to improve my speed’’.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
ayeh:  Maybe ODLH was just provoked by the insulting words of coach roach. I know what is in the mind of ODLH. He will teach boxing lessons to MP and coach roach. If that is the case, MP should exert all his bests in the ring and prove to the world that he is really the greatest boxer of all time. This is going to be a great and exciting fight. No back pedals in between rounds. Both fighters will exchange blows face to face and blow by blow. May the true warrior won. My fearless forecast is MP would KO ODLH in 11th round. Long live Pacman!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
donputo69 will be in Las Vegas Dec.6:  Is this fantasy boxing?....lmfaooo...i heard of fantasy football, baseball, basketball and hockey....NOT FANTASY BOXING...unless they just put it new now....lmfaoooo...just imagine michael buffer reading the scorecards?..lmfaoo..:LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, WE NOW GO TO THE YAHOO SCORECARDS...LMFAOOO..wouldnt that be so funny?..lol..ODLH is a big pu$$....he should be ashamed for picking on a much smaller opponent...does he not have a conscience?...he said he wants to fight the best and that's why he's fighting manny....so what if the best P4P fighter out there today was a bantamweight?...he'd probably have no shame either to call that fighter...cuz he's a big pu$$....who does not want to fight guys his own size knowing he'll lose....mexicans should be ashamed of him....he probably wants to win the hearts of the mexican people...and the sad part is now, that he said he might not retire just yet...i wonder who will be his next opponent?...hhhhmmmmm..so curious....i say maybe he will fight arce in his final fight on 5 de mayo....he'll probably callout arce and give him a 50/50 split just to fight him....lmfaoooo...holla back!!!!!!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
959 Santa:  At first I thought what a punk Oscar is for picking on someone smaller for his so called "farewell fight". Then I started thinking hey this fight really does make sense. First off we now have a good guy vs. the bad guy. Pacman being the good guy and Oscar being the bad guy. Oscar is the bad guy cause he is bigger than Manny Pac.The Good Guy is smaller but just as skilled. One thought came to my head is that we may see another Gatti type blowout by Oscar. Not a chance because Oscar is listed as only an 8-5 favorite. So that shows how much the oddsmakers have faith in Oscar. Not much even though Oscar is the bigger man I hope Manny Pac beats him.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Yuvie:  I think the Manny fans are becoming a bit deluded. I too am a big fan of Manny but this fight seriously worries me. I notice that a lot of people think Manny has a great chance of winning this fight. I hope and pray he does but it doesn't look good. As I've said, all it's gonna take is one shot from Oscar and that could have Manny in deep trouble. Manny ain't no superman, he's not gonna be able to take a flush shot from a light-middleweight. I hope they choose a cautious ref and Roach better be ready to jump in with the towel cause if Oscar traps Manny then he'll never be the same again and no one, even the haters, wanna see Manny get badly hurt. Let's face it, it's a must watch fight, only because we wanna see the big upset and find out what Manny can do against Oscar but I've got the feeling that I'm gonna be saying 'I told you so' after the fight.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
FightFanWest:  Javier I agree with you, also one last thing I would like to ask all the filipino's here. Just for curiosity sake...Since Oscar is fighting Manny at 147, then who out there in Disneyland thinks that Manny could step up and beat a real 147 pounder like Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
junsolucio:  TO ALL YOU MEDIAMEN AND CRITICS OF PACQUIAO WHO THINKS AND COMPARE MANNY TO A LICE AND ODLH TO AN ELEPHANT,SHAME ON YOU!WELL THE LICE JUST WENT IN INSIDER THE EARDRUM PENETRATING TO THE BRAIN OF THE ELEPHANT.AND BY THE WAY,PERNELLL WHITAKER WHO CAME FROM MUCH LOWER WEIGHT AND AS THE SAME HEIGHT OF PACMAN GAVE ODLH S HELL OF A FIGHT DURING HIS PRIME...DURING HIS PRIME,WELL THAT'S JUST AN OLD STORY.ADIOS AMIGOS!
Friday Aug 29, 2008
MightyMan:  Oscar sees opportunity that when he beat PACMAN, he can postponed his retirement plan. After that, he'll accept the fight of the best challenger out there. Margarito, Williams, Cotto, Mora, Maybadweather(I like that). All those could bring another event, another big day for boxing fans, another money maker event. He has to win. But if he gets beaten that's really a shame. Good bye pay per view and hail to the king of Boxing (singing, golf, basketball, darts, Politics etc...), Manny Pacquiao. Let's make this fight happen and learn from it.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Robert Curtis:  Last night I watched an old recording of Michael Spinks beating Larry Holmes for the title. This was yet another time a smaller man jumped in weight and pulled off a major upset, outclassing, outpunching and taking ownership of the ring away from a champion. These things HAPPEN.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
FightFanWest:  I'm really disappointed that none of the so called brave and proud filipino's on here haven't stepped up and told me who they think would win a fight between the mighty Manny against 147 pounders Margarito, Clottey and Williams. Since they think Manny can step up to real challenges. Wow if Manny has the heart of all of his supporters then he's in real trouble.
Friday Aug 29, 2008
Boxing idiot:  Boycot??? you boycot your own self!! godamn!!! ill wtch this fight even it will happened on monday,, ill file my excuse paper... ill root for Manny.. and for Oscar, you did good right choice!!! good luck!!!
Saturday Aug 30, 2008
Robert Curtis:  Oscar is Manny's tune-up and first big payday before better things. Then all the other 147-pounders will be bowling pins. LOL. Okay. Manny started his career awfully light, but don't you think he has a good chance against old Oscar? Manny might not always score at 147, but against old Oscar, he'll win, don't you agree? Talk back. I'm willing to be schooled.
Saturday Aug 30, 2008
junsolucio:  YEAH!! YOU'RE RIGHT ROBERT...PIGPENWEST, YOU WAIT TIL' PACMAN GET RID OF OSCAR THEN YOUR CHOSEN FIGHTHERS GOING TO BE NEXT IN LINE.....THAT IS IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT.PEACE AMIGO.
Saturday Aug 30, 2008
Josephna:  Oscar was never middleweight champion of the world. He held an alphabet belt after being gifted a decision in a fight he lost.
Saturday Aug 30, 2008
FgihtFanWest:  Robert Curtis, first of all school is in session. This isn't about Oscar, Oscar thinks he's bigger then the game to be able to pick a fighter of this magnitude and push it off to the public, Like Donputo69 said, Is this Fantasy boxing? Richard Schaefer of GB had said that if anyone doesn't like the fight Oscar/Manny then don't watch it. Well he can rest assure I definitely won't buy it! Oscar is a hypocrite and he contradicts himself. We always talk about boxing is dying and we need good fights. Everyone else is trying to do that except Oscar. All he's trying to do is fill his pockets. I have so much more respect for Ricky Hatton then Manny because if you remember he turned Oscar down after Floyd had retired and he would have made a great deal of money as well. The guys Israel Vasquez, Rafael Marquez and Cotto's are spilling there blood for 1-3 million dollars and are having life damaging fights and they are worth so much more money. Oscar in my mind is has no respect for the game anymore and the public has let him get away with it. All Oscar has done is lose the big fights. I was listening to Teddy Atlas last night and he even said he is SICK and tired of Oscar. I do say BOYCOTT THIS CRAP!
Saturday Aug 30, 2008
Pete Steward:  Like everyone else at first I was Shocked and disgusted at this match up. I mean first it was RICKYHATTON? Post Mayweather KO LOSS??? And a natural jr welterweight (140lbs) his shameless refusal to fight Margarito or any other top true Welterweight and he's not even a true welterweight himself he's at natural jr mdwt 154lbs. And now Manny??? Who’s even smaller than Hatton? And he still wanted the Lion Share of the LOOT! WHAT A GREEDY COWARD! But after some serious thought I realized that this would be a very Brutal and Bitter end to the most overrated career in boxing. 4 years ago this would be a slaughter for ODLH the way he fought B-HOP in 2004 at 160lbs for 6 rounds he would've killed Manny. But now he's a completely shot fighter No Jab after 6RDS No Stamina after 8RDS He's easier to hit than Everlast Heavy bag he’s not the same fighter he was 10, 5, or even last year when he lost to Money Mayweather. Manny’s going attack him like a Piranha. He'll eat Oscar Alive with lightning fast high volume power punches to the body & head. He'll get stronger round after as Oscar get weaker ODLH won’t realize what's happening till it's to late. This could be like Pryor Vs Arguello but DeLahoya is NO ARGUELLO.If he doesn't land his big left hook clean on Manny chin to quote Mr. T in Rocky lll He's DEAAAAAAAAAAAD MEAT! I can’t wait for this fight.
Saturday Aug 30, 2008
andy from newcastle:  Oscar is hinting at one more big one at the Estadio Azteca. This is the only thing that can rescue his dwindling legacy should he beat Manny. He'll gain nothing from a victory against the wee dynamo, and will lose everything if he loses. He doesn't need the money, it seems foolish beyond belief to risk it all in this theoretical mismatch (sizewise, not weighing hearts). But if DLH does KO Manny, and then puts it all on the line against Hatton, Williams, Tito, Cotto, Chavez Jr., or hopefully Margarito in Mexico City on Cinco De Mayo 2009, then we may all forgive him, win or lose. If Manny wins, then truly we will be witnessing real history, and a boxing legacy that will last for generations. I still haven't heard what percentage he accepted, but Manny is the real man in this bout, win or lose. Toonoy

rudy:  "I am stoked for this fight! Die hard Pac Man fan here, and I have been hoping this was going to happen! People who don't like this fight don't get boxing! It's not like people haven't moved up in weight. Billy Conn moved up significantly for Joe Louis! Stanley Ketchel for Jack Johnson! What's the problem? Pac Man is fast, powerful and will hit DLH. This is going to be a great fight!"
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
Nuckle:  To everybody that think we're hating on this fight or Pacman I think you need to stfu because you don't know what hating is. Real boxing fans rather see DLH fight the guy he really should in Margarito. He's a coward for taking on the much smaller Pacman. And size may not have made that much of a difference in fights that people mentioned above, but we're talking about a guy that fought at 106 lbs. Do you know what that looks like? That's like anorexic. And DLH was the middleweight champ. You'll need to get serious. Pacman has most of the advantages, but the key advantages in this fight is power and size. Pacman might bruise DLH, but will definetly not hurt him. You can't say the samething if DLH lands a big left hook. With that said nobody really said they want Pacman to lose and most people rather see DLH pick on somebody his own size. I'm with Manny all the way and hope he can somehow ko DLH.

Nuckle:  By the way I will not be buying this fight or going anywhere to see it. I will come here and read about the results and I'll catch the fight a week later when it's free.
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
FightFanWest:  Nuckle I'm totally with you on everything, I will not be buying it nor watching it. Rudy says we don't get it, He's the one that doesn't get it, Billy Conn moved up from Light Heavyweight, moving from Lt Heavy is not that significant as moving from 130 to 147 and he still got knocked out, this is a circus act and the real fans get it. For those who like MMA and go to bars to watch fights, like these kinds of fights because you guys are the same people(not fans) that would be at a bar and say silly things like "I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO FIGHT JORGE ARCE. Rudy I ask you the question that I have been asking, do you think that Manny can come up in weight and beat Paul Williams or Antonio Margarito? In that case Marquez should move up to fight Winky Wright. Margarito should fight Sam Peter, Pavlik should fight David Tua, yet here's a better one for you, it's a GREAT fight! Ricky Hatton vs Sam Peter. Wow! That's a fight I would pay $100ppv for.

donputo69 will be in Las vegas Dec.6:  how about ivan calderon vs valuev?..that will be the fight of the century with calderon coming out on top by a vicious KO in the 3rd round....holla back!!!!
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
FightFanWest:  Donputo69: LOL That's another great fight that i would definitely like to see. That has to be a PPV fight! You should be a matchmaker..lol I think Calderon would destroy Valuev. What about Lennox Lewis coming out of retirement and challenging Erik Morales. We need to see more great fights like this. Go Calderon!!
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
donputo69 will be in Las vegas Dec.6:  lmfaooo...good one too fightfanwest....lewis vs morales will be a classic....the winner fighting larry merchant....if lewis win, he should callout merchant....lewis vs merchant in 2009 in yankee stadium....WOW...cant wait for that one....another one i will like to see is mike tyson vs kevin federline....that too will be a classic...lol..holla back!!!!
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
Waldorf:  Tommy r, Sweetpea score a knock down in that fight and outbox ODLH in that fight, they gave ODLH that fight, just like they gaveTrindad the fight vs. ODLH but against MOSEley those fight were wars and I would have to give Moseley the nod. Pleez put Paul VS. Margarito on that fight card
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
Javier:  "THIS IS A BLESSING FROM GOD" yes to get the chance to fight Oscar, and make what you would make for 5 fights, 15 millions, now you will nedd to be BLESS and survive this punching bag training for Oscar, when you go back to your corner you will be like what, what who am i?and when you look at your trainer it will be like lets go home stop this fight, bacabaca
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
FightFanWest:  Donputo69: Yeah once Morales KO's Lewis then he fights Merchant who would come to the fight drunk like he does the HBO shows..lol Merchant and Morales is a must see fight. A guaranteed brawl. Damn! Ferderline versus Tyson. Well you know Ferderline has the better footwork so I might have to lean toward Federline by late round KO...lol Maybe Oscar/Manny could put their fight on the undercard. What about Joe Calzaghe vs Vic Darchinyan. Great matchup boxer vs puncher.
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
donputo69 will be in Las vegas Dec.6:  how about casamayor vs samuel peter?...thats a tough one to score...but i'll say casamayor by late ko stoppage....then casamayor can fight jim lampley...lmfaoooo....holla back!!!!
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
Javier:  "THE MOST OVERRATED FIGHTER PAC MAN" can somebody tell me who did Pacman beat young and on their prime name just one "NO BODY" he beat old Barrera old MOrales beat him once then he beat him him older, many people tought that old Marquez "35 years old"beat Pacman twice, whos David Diaz he cannot punch or move,i have a name for you guys Joan Guzman, nate Campbell, these guys are in different level or maybe Humberto Soto,Pac man likes old fighters now with DelaHoya going 36, but this old man still can fight and you guys will see that Pac man will go down, and after this he will lose to any fighter.
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
FightFanWest:  Amen Javier! Pacman is soooooooo over rated. The media has convinced everyone that Pacman is a great fighter. Like you said Morales, Barrera were old. He hasn't fought anyone young. David Diaz is at best a good club fighter. The filipinos didn't answer my question when I asked them why didn't Pacman step up to the challenge when Juan Diaz said come fight a young Mexican. They say that Pacman and all the filipino's step up to challenges. This is what kills me. Pacman CAN'T and I mean CAN'T beat Casamayor, Guzman, Campbell,Juan Diaz and even Soto. Instead he's a sellout just like Oscar. He's fighting for the money. I'm going to start calling him Money Pacquiao. Just like Mayweather didn't want to fight the Margarito's and Williams in his division, Money Pacquiao didn't want to fight the guys in the lightweight division. So to all the filipino's get off that proud crap when ur boy Money Pacquiao is doing it for the MONEY.
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
Anony:  ::: Manny "the hobbit" should last 6 to 7 rounds until Oscar "the elf" say "well, let me get him now before I start to get slow on th e 8th round, people had enough already anyway". And Manny will go.. "oh well, I may be the last fighter Oscar took down but I'm 15 million richer than before the first round"... what he doesn't know is that in 10 to 15 years Oscar will make a movie about his life and guess who will be remembered forever as the "last knocked down guy"??? OF COURSE, IN THE MOVIE THEY WON'T SHOW PACQUIAO THAT SMALL AND OUR GRANDCHILDREN WILL THINK OSCAR FOUGHT A GIANT IN HIS LAST FIGHT.
Sunday Aug 31, 2008
Javier:  Anony ,atleast you know who will win.
Monday Sep 1, 2008
xavier:  well all of us agree that pac-man is overrated right well some how his people think that he can beat mike tyson in his prime which is crazy i have one thing to say to his fans . GARBAGE because thats what he is .like i said before ok we let him fight our old mexican fighters ,thats because were getting him ready for his pro-debut . and when he fights a young fighter dont matter what race he is someone would have finally took out the garbage . pac-man is like john ruiz fighting these old fighters and getting this free money. but as soon as john someone that was good he got his butt kicked same story with pac-man. come dec.6 it will say game over one the arcade game .
Monday Sep 1, 2008
Isaiah:  I could say this fight shouldn't be happening like I said before, but forget it. Maybe, it will be interesting. I'll find out when I read about it on this great website the next day since there's no way I'll be paying for it. I can see the headline now. " Manny shocks world and mauls Golden Boy into retirement." They can have that headline for free. LOL. Here's a good fight. Ricardo Lopez comes out of retirement to take on Sylvester Stallone. How about it? 2 millon PPV buys anyone?

#1 pacfan P4P "Legend":  I can't believe how much criticism Pacquaio is getting when all he has done for boxing is give his all and put on a fight no matter how hurt he has gotten. Xavier you are a piece of garbage yourself, this Filipon is on the rise and you can't take it. This fighter has class which you don't recognize, when he knocked out Diaz he tried to help him up and that's deserves a lot of respect.
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
#1 pacfan P4P "Legend":  Like I said it before if you don't like the fight the go watch MMA. You are just one less fan out of the millions of viewers on PPV. There were some matchups I didn't want to watch (Mayweather vs DLH) but I still watch it to support the sport and was hoping to see Mayweather lose.
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
Anony:  ::: THE CRITICISM IS NOT ON PACQUIAO AS A FIGHTER ::: for that he gets all our respect. The criticism is because this fight proves nothing. There is no title at risk, Manny is just too small, and real boxing fans know this. Filipinos should not take this personally. It is not about Pacquiao or Oscar. It is about trying to sell an exhibition fight as a legitimate one. I'm not paying.
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
The REAL Salt lover:  This is a piece of CRAP fight. De la Hoya's not a MAN intaking this lil Filipino into the ring. Real men, and real fightfans know the real legitimate opponent for him was MArgarito and now De la Hoya's taking this easy STUPID fight. Screw De la Hoya. He truly deserves NO RESPECT. Simple
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
Javier:  #1pacafan P4P listen, who Paquioa beat on his prime and young ,nobody man, so how can he get respect, like Freddie Cacaroach said fighting Humberto Soto is to much of a risk lets go for the money, if you are a true Fan demand Paquiao to fight youg real fighters at least the top ones from 135 lbs Joan Guzman, Nate Campbell, Humberto Soto, Juan Diaz etc...dont you think? come on !get it ,i am a fan of Oscar but i also beleive that he shouldnt be fighteing anymore, i am real so all of you filipinos get real and tell Paquiao to stop hiding from number 1 young contenders , one more thing do not offend peoplelike you did to my friend Xavier,or this website will stop getting your comments.
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
FightFanWest:  Thank you Anony & Real Salt lover! Well said, I see some of these so called fans don't get it. They don't understand that this is like an exhibition. As I stated earlier. Once Mayweather retired, Oscar didn't call Money Pacquiao he asked to fight Hatton. Once Hatton turned him down then he went to the next MIDGET! NO #1Pacfan: You should be the one watching MMA because it shows you don't even know what a good fight is. You say Pacquiao tried to help Diaz up.Didn't Tyson at times try to help his opponent up? So what does that mean. If you don't know by now no one is criticizing any of the lightweight fights that's taking place because they are all great matches. Casamayor/Marquez, Guzman/Campbell, Diaz/Katsidis..All great fights. I'm not a fan of Hopkins but at least he's fighting a younger champion and at least he's fighting the best middleweight right now. That's stepping up! And he's 43-44 years old. Can we say the same for Oscar...NO!! Also Jeff Lacy/Jermain Taylor. That's a good matchup. Like Xavier said, you guys are on Pacquiao's jock so hard that you can't see REALITY!! I know you guys don't have many champions in boxing but get real.

donputo69 will be in Las vegas Dec.6:  i dont think pacman is overrated.....he's a great boxer...yes...maybe he did fought some over the hill guys....but ya cant say he's overrated...marquez is not old....and he beat him twice...morales still had a little gas in him in fights 1 & 2....barrera was 29 years old when pacman beat him....and come Dec 6, i just hope he knocks out de la hoya....but i dont see that happening....for pacman to get his RESPECT, he needs to fight guzman or hatton...if he cant beat those 2 guys, then maybe he will shut all you haters in this site...holla back!!!!!
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
Javier:  Hey donputo,Barrera was down the hill Morales old fart, but there you go Guzman, campbell, Hatton, at least Soto, or Juan Diaz, we are not haters just boxing fans that spend money watching boxing and we deserve the best,we dont make the millions they do from us dont you think?peace brothers.
Tuesday Sep 2, 2008
GV:  This is an interesting fight only because DLH is way past his prime and Manny is at his peak. However, it will very likely not come down to reach, stamina or punching power, but on who can best take a punch. I have seen Manny hurt by Marques and Morales and he was also TKO in lower weight...So for me, it come down to the stringer chin or the two, and I think this is where DLH has a significant advantage. Manny will gain a lot of fans with his performance (this fight will be much more entertaining than DLH-Mayweather) and might win a decision, but he is likely to get TKO if he gets too aggressive as I am sure DLH has enough power to hurt him, but the opposite is unclear.

cromacho:  Javier -- assume for a moment that filipinos have only one good fighter, but it took only one to slaughter all the mexican fighters like pac is doing, no? the problem with ignoramuses like you and your sidekick FightFanWest is your fighters are living legends/hall of famers until pac beats them -- then they are over the hill. bring them all on. manny will fight them one at a time. and while you might not know or admit, pac has developed quite a following among mexican fans. haters like FightFanWest are just that, peste -- no point in arguing with them. you hide under specious hypotheticals like "the real" or "in his prime" -- well in boxing nobody is ever the same. a fighter grows and changes and is never the same from one moment to the next. the only thing that matters is what happens in the ring at fight time. dlh should be fighting margarito or even cotto, but that is to dlh's discredit. stepping up to this challenge is a tribute to pacman. deal with it.

Anony:  :::::::::: FANTASY MATCH GAME :::::: AFTER PACQUIAO WINS DLH ::::::::::: He should take on Valuev as a tune up before facing Klitschko... I guess Klitschko's reach could give Pacquiao a little trouble but his speed and power should help him win at least by split decision. I kind of see him winning by TKO in the 7th round but that just me. hehehehehe
Wednesday Sep 3, 2008
donputo69 Hanging out in Puerto Rico:  how about pacman vs valuev?...i can see pacman moving up to 210 pounds and valuev will come down to 240....it will go down like this....check it out: VALUEV WINNING ROUNDS 1,2,3,...PACMAN 4,5,6,7....ROUND 8 WILL GO TO VALUEV WHEN HE STUNS PACQUIAO WITH A WICKED LEFT AND DROPS HIM TO THE FLOOR...ROUND 9,10,11 TO VALUEV AGAIN...BUT THE FIGHT WILL FINISH IN A STUNING UPSET....PACQUIAO CATCHES VALUEV FLUSH WITH A HAYMAKER THAT DROPS THE BIG GIANT DOWN AT 2:59 LEFT IN THE 12TH ROUND...THE CROWD IS STUNT IN GERMANY WHERE THE FIGHT TOOK PLACE!!!!and now pacquiao has made history in the making....holla back!!!!
Wednesday Sep 3, 2008
Anony:  :::::: hehehehe that's a good one don"showoff"puto69. I guess after Pacman wins DLH, he will try to move up to heavyweight and collect all those belts in between. Oscar then can challenge Iván Calderón belt. I mean, these boxers can do anything, right??

lostboy:  shut up to all critics!! you are all-ready judging w/out seeing it yet!! grow up-just wait for it and watch, then your free too have a comment okey......mabuhay
Thursday Sep 4, 2008
lostboy:  okey it's easy to accept that manny pacman will loss this match because his opponent is much bigger, taller, long reach that's absolutely brilliant i give you a credit for that.......but what if manny beat dela hoya??? maybe you ( all critics ) will end up of mental breakdown due to wondering how could that happend!!!!! did you think about it??? hahaha!!! not for being bias i will admit that im a pacman's fan but it is indeed doable that a small guy can beat big guy.pls. watch what the story behind JOHN RUIZ vs ROY JONES JR.-----CAN I REQUEST THE NEXT ONE( yes im talking to you who reading my comment haha!!) TO HAVE A COMMENT ON ME REGARDING IN WHAT IVE TYPE....peace on earth

No Love For The Modern Glove
Fight fans who are of the opinion that modern boxers could have held their own against guys from earlier eras always seem to ignore the fact that boxers back in the day were more durable than modern ones and had to be because of the different conditions under which they fought. For one thing, the lighter, non-water-resistant, horsehair gloves used in earlier eras required one to have stronger hand bones than the heavier, foam-padded, water resistant gloves used today, so any modern fighter who suffers chronic hand injuries would never have lasted very long in bouts fought in earlier eras (unless, of course, they took a little off of every punch that they threw, which, of course, would have made them much less effective fighters). ---TSS reader Feed The Cat offers some perspective on the Old vs. New debate
