"This Really Is For The Filipino People"

By Phil Woolever

LAS VEGAS - Manny Pacquiao may or may not have ascended to the top of boxing's pound for pound list, and he may or may not have the most fanatic following in fisticuffs.

However it would be near impossibly hard to dispute either of those categorizations if you were inside a punch crazed Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday night as Pacquiao clobbered David Diaz.

"I don't like to compare myself to other fighters," said Pacquiao. "If I'm the best pound for pound is for others to decide. I'm just a fighter who wants to make his fans happy. My goal is to fight great and show my boxing skills every time."

Pacquiao's skill and Diaz's guts were in prominent evidence, but as a fight, it was really no contest.

Pacquiao's large, finely festive contingent of vocal followers showed up on the Strip near full strength to represent him, and Pacquiao showed up in the ring near full strength to represent them.

The result was a duke-out party the like of which are seldom seen, even in this hotbed of hammering heroes. From the looks of the ringside area, most of the fans were on cellphones taking pictures of boisterous babes and sending raucous reports back to the Philippines.

Prefight questions centered around familiar themes about carrying power in Pacquiao's move up in weight.

There were no such inquiries once the brawl began.

From the looks of Diaz's bloody face, the answer came in bright red. Diaz never quit firing back, but he was pretty much out of the bout by the third frame.

That was fine with the assembled swarm, who witnessed the almost literal equivalent of the old bull and matador cliche.

Looking around the casino, one got the impression that Filipino tourists are a lot better mannered than their USA counterparts, even to the refreshing point of singing along to America's National Anthem.

With temperatures around 115 degrees, lots of goobers tried to show they were the hottest game in town. The Filipino faithful stayed calm, cool, and collected with confidence in their man.

New, motion type billboards around town advertised tickets to get in the building for "as little as $399.” Considering the cost of fuel while goons zoomed around in SUVs, and how many dead soldier cans of beer and Red Bull littered the parking lot, that price was a relative bargain.

It seemed like a Family Stone "family affair" for "hot fun in the summertime." And as fight night grew closer it seemed more and more there might be a "riot going on.” Pacquiao certainly wanted to take his crowd higher, and he did, with more apparent energy than for many big Sin City fights.

Tickets to Pacquiao's "official after party" were hard to come by. You could have charged entrance fees to the postfight press conference, where Pacquiao's posse numbered in the non-media hundreds.

The hardest question asked involved whether Pacquiao would meet Ricky Hatton, one of the few campaigners with similar appeal. Promoter Bob Arum said they were looking at the first half of next year.

Whoever Pacquiao meets next time, count on another classy, crazy crowd. Hatton's troops certainly chug more brews, but Pacquiao's followers act like they've been there before, probably because many of them have.

"It's a big honor for me and my country," reflected Pacquiao beforehand. "This really is for the Filipino people."

Dozens of Filipino flags waved prouder than ever. It seemed like half of the crowd of 8,362 (Arum indicated Bush era economics hurt the box office) had signs proclaiming "Pac-Man #1 P4P".

In the long run of punches thrown, maybe, maybe not.

But Saturday night in Vegas, there was no doubt about it.

Ralph A. Ligtas:  Pacman definitely showed his best during the fight with Diaz, Definitely feels good if you are Filipino during that victory, Pacman never brags about victories but always gives credit to those who deserve it. That is the best so far any fighter can show, respect, and honor. Never underestimates his opponents, this November is going to be an exciting fight against Valero, if Pacman trains hard same as prefight with Diaz or even harder, and if Valero does not train his defense, make no mistake, Pacman by late ko again, round 9

Team TSS Honorary member Radam G:  Nice piece! Fightwriter Phil. Thanks! A pinoy crowd is like no other. We focus and give all of our energy to our hero, the Hurtlord of the hurt business. You fight Manny, and 70-million pinoys and pinays on more than 7,000 island in the Philippines are energizing him. Millions of more -- worldwide -- who are descendants from the archipelago are energizing Manny. And even their non-Filipino mates and friends are for Manny. Manny charms the world, remindful of Muhammad "The Greatest" Ali. Ali lit up the world with his mouth and poetry. Manny lights up the world with his smile and charisma! There is never a reason for us to act like thugs or goons. We are the PacMan peaceful posse, because we are confident that he will always take care of business in the squared jungle and make us proud to shout. It's Pinoy TIme. Holla!

PacFan:  MP's talents had to honed, gratefully by Coach Freddie, but MP's humility is innate and reinforced by his mother and wife. Thank you Mr. Woolever for seeing more than just the fight and the man. As a Filipino-American and boxing fan, I thank you for your kind words.

TSS 2007 ROTY Radam G:  PacMan has already rapped up the boxer of the year award by winning two-weight division titles in the same year. He joined Big Money O, aka The Golden Boy, and the great Sugar Ray Leonard in doing this. Also Pera Pac is the first flyweight titleholder to win a lightweight title belt. And, of course, he is the first Asian to win four different division titles. In addition to holding two at the same time. He is presently holding the WBC super featherweight and lightweight titles, as you know. (He will make the most money ever in one year by a boxer 135 lbs or less, come November. ) Winning his next divisional title next year, will give him four for the decade -- five for his career. So this definitely makes him an early candidate for boxer of the decade. Hey! Pinoy pride is looking awesome. It's PacMan Time! It's Pinoy Time! Holla!

rudy:  Very impressive by the PacMan. Dominated Diaz for every almost every second of those 9rds. He deserves the #1 spot in the sport right now. Hopefully a fight versus Soto or Valero happens in November.

donputo69:  valero..nuff said..if he can get pass by valero, i think he should fight hatton next...and please readers....please dont mention cotto's name..cotto will destroy pacman...holla back ladies..

Salt lover:  Floyd knows that He'll be in 4 a REAL Fight with Cotto & Margarito..Ya Keep sleepin on Cotto If Ya want 2, Ppl keep saying that Cotto hasn't faced anyone like Mayweather, Uhhh, Mayweather hasn't faced anyone like Cotto either, Cotto can box & bang, It would not be an easy fight 4 Floyd..And HE KNOWS THAT, De La Hoya~No Cotto! Hatton~No Cotto!.2 be the best, U have 2 fight that best, De La Hoya & Hatton aren't the best!! So, U can't call urself the best~~~At least Cotto WANTS 2 Fight the BEST!!!

TSS (still not honorary) Anony:  Man... I'm tire of all these pretentious people writing here. "I'm in las Vegas, be back tomorrow in NY", "I have a Blackberry to do my blogging", "I couldn't assist to the fight this time because of businees"... such a bunch of show off. TALK ABOUT THE ARTICLE not about what you have or not and should stop the bragging around here. Don puto, I'm glad you were in the fight, Radam G, it's ok to have a Blackberry to do your blogging but why show off? It is enough with your so called "TSS honorary membership".... Andy from Newcastle... do you think we care to read those BIG comments and always trying to make friends? All of you sound like you don't have a life. About the article... yeah, we know the "national feeling" our heroes give to us eveytime they go and fight. You feel that in Youngstown, OH now but it is something american people are not used to. Maybe is because there is too much land and much less fighters. Manny is trully a champion, a hero and most importantly, a humble person. It trully contrast with all of you pretentious people. Get the point?????

#1 pacfan:  First of all I want to thank SweetScience or whom ever posted my comment on the front page that was pretty cool. But I'm just like any of these Pacfanatics who love watch him fight. I used to be a DLH fan at first and still am but I had to find a new favorite boxer. Then I was told of Manny Pacquaio and I watch him for the first time I was awwed. He was gutty, relentless, heart of a lion, and action packed fighter. He is one of the fighters that is giving boxing hope to get back in the spotlight. Like I said Pacquaio vs Mayweather at a catch weight in 140.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 11:15:37 AM
Christopher Lettera:  Barring an unlikely Calzaghe win over Pavlik, I'm very comfortable with Manny's position at the top of the P4P list. Excluding his razor thin victory in Marquez II, he's certainly earned it. Here's a question for the TSS crowd: why does every discussion on these boards turn inevitably to Mayweather Jr.? Can't we simply congratulate Manny and focus on fighters who actually fight? Consider this. Can Manny move up to 140 to beat Hatton? Absolutely. Will he ever fight Mayweather at such a catch weight? Not a chance. As intriguing and fun a matchup as it would be, Mayweather is typicaly more concerned with sitting atop his fortune than facing quality opposition. If anything, the absence of such a card (or of Mayweather-Cotto or Mayweather-Margarito) speaks to what we all love about guys like Pacquiao, Cotto, Pavlik, and De La Hoya, fighters who are willing to take on the very best the sport has to offer. These are the guys we should be focusing on rather than Money May, a true punk and a disgrace to the sport. Can't we let him exist in the past tense where he belongs?
Monday Jun 30, 2008 11:38:59 AM
#1 pacfan:  Nice piece Chris L., i agree on what you said. But if possibly Manny can call out Mayweather we may see him come out of retirement because he will feel that it would be an easy fight. He said it himself he will knock Manny out in three which i strongly disagree, you have to give him more credit than that. If Pretty Boy can say something like that then Manny deserves to fight with him if he chooses to. I was skeptical on him moving up to 135 until Saturday night, he was awesome. Valero should fight a quality opponent first before he gets it on with Manny because then you'll hear criticism that he fought a dreamer and not a contender. PROMOTE PACQUAIO VS MAYWEATHER AT 140!!!!!
Monday Jun 30, 2008 12:45:29 PM
The Humble Radam G:  Naku! -- Wow! I inadvertently read the "blog" by "Anony," my bad! Talking about anger, marginalization, uncultured, untraveled jealousy, intolerance and plain old insanity. This guy is really having a nervous breakdown -- cyberspace style. This TSS posse is not for him. Somebody turn him on to a mental health doctor. I'm sure there are some nice ones in the Big Apple. GEEEZZZEEE! Manny is the best active P4P boxer. Big Money O is the best active legendary boxer. And Money May is the best retired P4P. Cotto is going to do a job on Margarito. Holla!
Monday Jun 30, 2008 01:10:47 PM
Yuvie:  Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. It's always exciting to watch Pacquiao and he deserves to be at the top. Who needs Floyd when you got Manny. The only obvious choice next is Valero. Who else is there? All the other lightweights are tied up for now. Valero's gonna catch a good old fashioned arse-whooping if he gets in the ring with Pac. Hopefully Malignaggi gets lip gloss in his eye and can't fight Hatton, I'm sure Hatton is wishing he never signed so quick for Paulie. Pac needs to fight both Casamayor/Marquez or Guzman/Cambell. Let the winner of Diaz/Katsidis build up a bit more. I just hope Pac don't do a floyd and start avoiding the other top lightweights.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 02:21:27 PM
andy from newcastle:  Mr.Anony sir. As I've said before, if you don't like it here, search for another site. I do have a life, and reading articles on TSS and writng comments on them happen to part of it, and I'll make no apologies to the likes of you for doing it. If my comments are too long for you, don't read them or stop when you wish. 90% of the last one was boxing related anyway, as they usually are (see Tommy Hearns bio, and Fenech Nelson I and II). Have a nice day. Toonoy
Monday Jun 30, 2008 02:53:18 PM
Arturo:  Pacman was really hungry this past saturday,he bit chunks at a time too! This is the attention Floyd wanted but for Manny it was given.I'm not trying to say anything bad about Floyd in the ring but Manny has more impact on boxing fans than Floyd can ask for.I still feel like no fighter will test Manny the way Marquez does, not Guzman,Casamayor or anyone else.I feel bad in a way cause Manny keeps on winning against Mexican fighters but you have to beat the best to be the best.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 06:30:59 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  This is to whoever wrote in Salt lover's name: BE a MAN and show yourself. The real Salt lover's not writing anything now, but he's definitely reading the posting comments. So whoever is writing in Salt lover's name: CUT THE CRAP.....Floyd Mayweather would put Miguel Cotto in a 2nd grade boxing clinic, and everyone knows this....including you, whoever you are. Building up a career with boxers Floyd already beat first and in the 90's is nothing to be called great..... And De la Hoya ALSO would kick Miguel Cotto's ass. Any good fighter at 154 would kick his ass too. Miguel Cotto's days are numbered and will end up in the Hall of Shame so bad, that his goon fans are gonna wind up hiding behind other people's identities, just like you're doing now buddy....Me saying "At least Cotto WANTS 2 Fight the BEST!!!??????" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Please.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 06:44:44 PM
Radam G:  Juan "Canvas Kisser" Manuel Marquez will never beat the best. He will kiss the canvas against another island boy -- Casamayor. Canvas Kisser Marquez is the most brain-dead fighter in the hurt business. His management needs to get in his head that he is no match for PacMan. He looks like a sissy always kissing the canvas. Any way, the end of this crybaby will come when Casamayor finishes him off. Holla!
Monday Jun 30, 2008 06:55:01 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Yo Radam, it's interesting you're calling Juan Manuel Marquez a "Canvas Kisser", when he's never been KO'ed in his career. Pacquiao's been put to sleep twice in his career, and Marquez had a longer career than Pacquiao..... And you're in an even deeper sleep if you believe Casamayor will win over Marquez, when every person with healthy mind knows Marquez is gonna kill the Cuban in September....By the way, the one who has to get reality in his mind you my friend, Roach and Arum both said recently that if Marquez and Pacquiao win their fights, they'll face off again in 2009. Marquez will finish the business with payback for getting robbed twice against your Tagalog idol. Peace.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 07:26:52 PM
The Real Radam G:  Wow! Good to hear from you, The Real Salt lover. All is good. Casamayor is going to knock Marquez out comes September. The guy fights like an amateur and expects to win. He need to land wrecking punches -- this is the pros -- not stay-off-me soft shots. He will again kiss the canvas against Casamayor. And he will still be a crybaby complaining about something. Maybe about referee Joe C. Manny's never been "put to sleep twice," or even once. He lost by a cut and a controversial quick stoppage. You can see both bouts on Youtube. Holla!
Monday Jun 30, 2008 09:24:18 PM
#1pacfan:  I got a million bucks that Marquez will stay down on the canvas if he chooses to fight Manny at this weight division at this time. We might not see that fight anyway because I believe Casmayor will win that fight. Marquez will not carry his speed or power like Pacquaio did and Marquez cannot take a punch like Manny can. Two knockout losses in his career doesn't mean a thing to him or his fans what matters is now. Go to every boxing website and you'll see what I mean "Best Boxer on the Planet"
Monday Jun 30, 2008 09:43:14 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  I got a better one for ya: Why don't YOU go to boxing record website and check AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL the experts and people who saw, or as a matter of fact KNOWS, Marquez won the rematch. Casmayor beating Mar....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P-L-E-A-S-E! And he's the best now that Floyd Mayweather retired. Plain and simple. Peace.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 09:47:31 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Stay-off-me soft shots, right? Well, if I recall correclty I don't think the punch Marquez landed on Pacquiao in the 2nd round was a soft one. Pacquiao was stunned. Marquez got the punch. Besides, Pacfans wishing for Casamayor's Victory proves it all: Y'all scared of Marquez. Pacquiao is too. He wants no part of Marquez. Casamayor's gonna lose bad, and I can also predict, Radam, that no matter how great Marquez looks and win in September, y'all still gonna be dissing him. Y'all gonna look his weaknesses and mistakes to attack him. But it's all right. Marquez is gonna deliver a clear message to Casamayor come September: "Hey Manny boy, guess who's back?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Then, the trilogy in 2009 and take Pacquiao out of circulation once and for all. Peace dude.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 10:12:48 PM
The REAL Salt lover::  I mean to say a clear message to Pacquiao. Hehehehe my bad.
Monday Jun 30, 2008 11:12:51 PM
Radam G:  Wow! One hard punch to 70 doesn't win in the pros. Manny rocked Marquez in nine of the 12 rounds. Marquez throw stay-off-me shots. Any way, Marquez will get finished off by Casamayor. Just wait and see. Holla!
Monday Jun 30, 2008 11:53:00 PM
Radam G:  Oh! I musta fo' got. And knocked Marquez down. JMM is a lover of kissing the canvas. I predict that Casamayor is going to clue him to the canvas. And JMM will blame referee Joe Cortez. Even is Cortez doesn't referee. Holla!
Monday Jun 30, 2008 11:57:21 PM
rudy:  I gotta go with my man Salt, Marquez is going to handle El Cepillo. Plus Radam if Manny fights Soto, La Zorrita will take him out!!!
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 09:02:47 AM
#1 pacfan:  Didn't you watch the Casmayor vs Katsidis fight? Obviously not, Marquez has problems fighting southpaws. Pacquaio did get rocked but thats about it but Marquez got knocked plain and simple. I also believe that Soto is the most dangerous fighter for Pacquaio. This is what I see for Pacquaio for this year and the next; Pacquaio will knock out Valero in the first round and give him a taste of his own medicine; Pacquaio unanimous decision over Hatton; then thats when we promote "PACQUAIO VS mayweather @ 140lbs dubbed "FIGHT OF THE CENTURY!!"
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 10:24:44 AM
Salt lover:  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Pacfans are aching for Marquez to stay off. LOL!!!!!! All of y'all scared to death of Juan Manuel. And you know what?????? Y'ALL SHOULD BE cuz he's gonna dominate the Lightweight dvision!
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 11:38:43 AM
rudy:  What does the Katsidis fight have to do with Marquez having trouble with lefties???? Marquez will outbox Casa, no question about it. Manny vs Floyd is one serious pipedream, WTF r u smoking?
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 11:52:38 AM
Smiley C:  Talkin' 'bout a "pipedream, WTF r u smoking?" Soto, La Zorrita will get taken out by PacMan. The only thing that Joe Cortez will do is take out La Zorrita mouthpiece after he is KTFO. Fo' sure!
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 02:01:09 PM
Smiley C:  A fight 4 Pacman/Soto is scheduled for December. I guess somebody will be eating crow. Fo' sure!
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 04:42:03 PM
Salt lover:  Correction, Pacquiao-Valero is schedule for November.
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 05:11:00 PM
Arturo:  Just by looking at Manny's beat up face during the decision you can tell he was really surprised by the result. If JMM likes to kiss the canvas then Manny loves to smear leather all over his face. There was a 1 point differential in both fights ,a point that could have gone either way. Marquez has World Class Technique in his boxing game , Manny has great strength and speed but he thinks twice about going in on JMM . I don't think that 5 pounds is going to slow down JMM to the point that he could not beat a boxer that won with a lucky shot on his last fight
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 05:38:23 PM
Arturo:  Casamayor's lucky left
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 05:40:42 PM
Smiley C:  Shoo! All these JMM lovers cannot face the fact that the dude got BTFU. Lets face it and move on. Chris John kick JMM a$$ too. These Asians are just all over his a$$. Now the Cuban is going to take this poser out. Yea, look as JMM face too. He looked like somebody beat his face with an ugly stick in all his fights with Asians, Chris John, Pacman, Jimrex Jaca and Terdak Jandaeng. End of discussion. All of them cut JMM up and two of them making him kiss the canvas and took his titles. You know who they are. Chris John and Pacman. Fo' sure!
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 05:59:29 PM
andy from newcastle:  I don't want to get drawn into the JMM thing again too much, cos like him, I think I need to move on. Marquez, along with Mijares, is the greatest boxing technician around at the moment, it is like watching art in motion. Manny in contrast is a whirlwind, a tour de force unrivaled in the game today. Both are to be appreciated, admired, and looked up to, and both deserve their place in the top 5 P4P for different reasons, irrespective of the outcome of their two fights. Some will lean towards Manny, some (including me) will lean to JMM. But ALL should get immense satisfaction watching both perform their chosen profession. If you don't, you're losing out on half the fun. Toonoy.
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 07:24:08 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Smiley, what was Juan Manuel's a$$ numbered is called ROBBERY. Both Pacquiao and John had controvertial decisions against him. Everybody who knows boxing, knows Marquez kicked John's butt and won clearly against Pacquiao. Rob Arum is a tremendous promoter.
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 08:13:59 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  But I like always say: A Victory is a Victory. It's all right. But even if Pacquiao doesn't give Marquez the 3rd fight, which I seriously doubt (Pacquiao knows he lost), still Marquez is taking the Lightweight. And he's gonna begin by beating Casamayor, a much better fighter than that punk David Diaz. Peace.
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 08:16:26 PM
donputo69:  hey salt..you alive...where you been hiding at?...lol...ANYWAY...my early predictions...here we go...COTTO WILL BEAT MARGARITO...MARQUEZ WILL BEAT LA CEPILLA...AND IF THE RUMORS ARE TRUE, I SEE VALERO..YEP...YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST....VALERO WILL BEAT "THE GREAT" PACQUIAO..ya heard it here first...HOLLA BACK LADIES..
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 08:47:30 PM
donputo69:  hey salt..you still crying about scareweather?..stop it already..this is a pacquiao blog..not a scareweather blog..and by the way..COTTO WILL EAT SCAREWEATHER'S NARGAS FOR DINNER..if you dont understand what that means....it means CULO..90% of REAL BOXING FANS knows that cotto will destroy scareweather...but enough of that..im tired my self repeating this crap all the time...just watch JULY 26..holla back monkeys..
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 09:40:42 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Don, I know this is a Pacquiao board, but I was answering to the coward who wrote in my name. By the way is not "NARGAS" you ignorant, its NALGAS. Yeah, I know what that means more than you. You don't know any spanish man. And NO, Floyd'll put Cotto back to kindergarden boxing. Besides, Margarito will destroy Cotto once and for all. July 26 is the end of Cotto's undefeated record....and the end of all your foolishness too. Then it's Pacquiao the next target. Peace.
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 10:30:05 PM
Smiley C:  My predictions...here we go...Margarito will beat Cotton...La Cepilla will knock out Marquez. The rumors are true. I see Pacman knocking out the weak Valero..Yep...You heard it here FIRST...HOLLA BACK LADIES..I mean...Fo' sure!
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 11:10:00 PM
donputo69:  yo smiley..STOP BITING MY LINES HOMIE..and plus your predictions are horrible..jeeeeezzzzz.....now...HOLLA BACK MY LADIES...FO SHIZZLE...MY NIZZLE...
Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 11:16:21 PM
rudy:  Marquez tops Casa, PacMan would whoop Valero, and Cotto gets overpowered and KO'd in 7 by Margarito.
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 12:21:15 AM
The REAL Salt lover:  rudy, it's not that Marquez "tops" Casa. It's Marquez Stops Casa. Marquez is gonna win that fight, and the Pacfans are gonna watch the fight under their beds. Cuz they're scared of The Mexican Dynamite. Yes, Cotto's 0 is gonna GOOOOO!!!! This 26th and about Valero vs Pacquiao I wish another one to fight Pacquiao, but if it's Valero, then I'll root for him. Peace.
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 01:14:16 AM

The REAL Salt lover:  Don, I know Valero is not a Mexican. He's from Venezuela, and I'm just rooting for him. I saw him fight and he doesn't convince me. He has strenght, power, and toughness but he throws WAY too wide punches. Plus, I don't know if he'll have the stamina to follow through. But still I'm rooting for him, but about Marquez: HE'LL BEAT CASAMAYOR BACK TO GUANTANAMO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! PACFANS!! MARQUEZ IS BACK!!!!

The REAL Salt lover:  Hey STUDD, I'm NOT a Mexican, but I believe that he beat up Morales when El Terrible was just washed up, not from age, but from WAY too many hard battles. A primed fresh Morales, would beat Pacquiao everytime they fight. THAT'S the reality.

#1 pacfan:  Ya'll just scared to see Scareweather take on the Pacman. I see it as a possibility of a fight if Floyd is willing to move down weight and becoming a MEGA FIGHT!!!! He won't fight the best in his weight division so lets see him fight someone out of his division. PROMOTE PACQUAIO VS mayweather @140
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 11:35:44 AM
The REAL Salt lover:  Nop, the same problem with Cotto: Arum's on the way, Pacquiao doesn't represents any $$$$$, and Pacquiao's known to the Die-hard boxing fans ONLY, and not to the general public, even though I agree that match-up is an interesting one, but whoever made that up was definitely playing Fight Night in Play Station. Scared to see Floyd with Pacquiao?????HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P-L-E-A-S-E!!! Floyd's skills are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much for Pacquiao. Too skilled, too much defense, too much footwork and too much wits. Ask Freddie "The Joke Coach" Roach, he already knows HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

donputo69:  scareweather is a PUSS...why retire now?..why?...i mean...i dont hate the guy...i hate his heart....he has no heart....and about pacman and the $$$$$$?...trust me...he will make the $$$$...and trust me..if scareweather comes back and fight pacquiao, then we all know that he doesnt want no part of COTTO..always hand picking opponents that he knows he has a shot of beat em them...lmao...holla back monkeys...
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 02:43:47 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Retire to MAKE FIGHTS MUCH BIGGER!!!!! WOW!! You didn't know that????????? And no man. When you're fighting under Rob Arum you get the $$$$$. Cotto's gonna get $5 Mill, and that's his biggest purse. Floyd won all over $20 Mill for a fight. That's why Floyd doesn't want to fight Cotto NOW. When Cotto becomes his own man, then Floyd's all available. That's part of the business. That's why Golden Boy and Floyd left the old man. don, you don't know what you're talking about. You don't know anything that's happening behind the iron curtain.

#1 pacfan:  Well he proved me wrong when his debut to lightweight and he'll prolly prove me wrong once again when he fights Hatton @140. The outcome of that fight will determine on the chances if a PACQUAIO VS mayweather will happen. Till then PROMOTE PACQUAIO VS mayweather at a catch weight in 140.
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 03:51:45 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Whoa! I meant to say: When you're fighting under Rob Arum you DON'T get the $$$$$, nor you represnt any. My bad.
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 04:32:23 PM
donputo69:  hey salt...let me make this clear for you..DE LA HOYA MADE SCAREWEATHER RICH...before he fought de la hoya he was making between 3 mil and 9 mil per fight...he turn down 8 mil to fight margarito in 2002 and fought castillo for way less pesos...so now all of a sudden he wants 20 mil or better?...pleeeeease...trust me..when cotto fights dlh,, he too will be making 15 mil or better...so stop the No nonsense comments...his legacy is trash already...you wont be saying that about cotto when he retires....holla back monkeys...
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 05:21:15 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  You meanwhen Margarito retires him. No, I'm not gonna keep saying that. I'ma so sorry for him, I'm not gonna criticize him....But of the both of us the ones who needs a clear explanation is YOU. Of course Floyd was making less money before!! Like I said before (Yo you're not reading me): When you fight for Rob Arum, you don't get much $$$$$$$$$. Floyd was fighting for Arum when he fought Castillo. After Floyd became HIS WON MAN, THEN he made the money. And not only against DLH, against Hatton too, Floyd also made MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD Money. Floyd Mayweather today is a BIG name in boxing. And don, he turned down the Margarito fight 2002???????????? He turned down that fight after beating Judah, and before fighting DLH. That was in 2006. Yo, you got it all wrong. Peace.
Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 08:42:25 PM
donputo69:  hey salt...you might be right on some of your point...and thats a big MIGHT....and you wrong about 2006...he turn down 8mil in 2002...do you read the RING MAGAZINE?...read it and get back to me....holla back.....ohh and by the way...margarito is gonna retire cotto?..haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......listen...you dont even believe that your self....last thing i know is that you are horrible on your predictions....lol..keep it up.....peace....
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 11:12:11 AM
#1 pacfan:  That sissy did turn down Margarito in 02 everybody knows that otherwise Floyd wouldn't be where he is right now!! And as of today mayweather is a no name in boxing.
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 11:17:56 AM
The REAL Salt lover:  He turned down Margarito in 2002 HAS to be wrong. Floyd was still a Lightweight in 2002 and Margarito was a Welterweight. At that time people were still skeptic about how Floyd would do against a natural 140 like Gatti. It was after he beat Gatti and Judah, that the Margarito option was on the table. And I remember, cuz I was on Floyd the whole time. Maybe I'm wrong, but the Margarito name started to sound next Floyd when DLH KO Mayorga, that Magrarito and Floyd were about to scuffle in the hotel, after Floyd refused to make business with Margarito. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I remember it......and yeah Margarito is gonna beat Cotto this 26th. This prediction is the BIG one. And I'm gonna win it. Peace.
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 11:49:27 AM
donputo69:  no no no no no.....in 2002 floyd him self said that he was planning to move up to 147 to fight dlh....i remember that like if it was yesterday....then they ask him if he wants to fight margarito at 147 for 8 mil and he turn it down...what a wuss...trust me buddy...i've been watching boxing for too long already....holla back monkeys....
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 02:35:30 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  So, if you're a fighter you would rather fight a guy for $8 Mill, rather than to fight a boxer for $20 Mill?. Dude, Margarito would NEVER in this life perform against Floyd Mayweather better than DLH did. A fight against an unskilled guy like Margarito, Floyd would take him to school. A guy with Floyd's skills would make Margarito look like Gatti did, or even worse. Too much skills, speed, defense and wits for Tony. Peace
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 02:45:53 PM
donputo69:  yo what do you dont understand salt?...LISTEN..in 2002 scareweather wasnt making 20 mil....COMPRENDE....he was making REGULAR money..why you think he was pretty boy before money may?...its ok..i'll wait....you said he rather fight dlh for 20 instead of margarito's 8 mil....HELLOOOOOOOO....he didnt fight fight dlh until 2007....HELLOOOOOOOOO.....so try to make a lil sense when you post these ridiculios comments.....NOW....HOLLA BACK.......
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 04:31:36 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Well, in my understanding the name Margarito in Floyd's option began after he beat Judah. Besides how the hell can he jump from 135 lbs to 147lbs against a guy like Margarito. That's crazy! The name Margarito didn't sound as a possible Floyd opponent in 2002. Like I said, experts were still skeptic about Floyd going to 140 against Gatti, I doubt Margarito was even in their minds, but then again I must be wrong then......I'm watching the end of Pacquiao vs Diaz and Michael Buffer didn't called Pacquiao the best P4P like he did with Floyd HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....Oh! and also Emmanuel Stewart believes Marquez beat Pacman in both fights HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Peace y'all.
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 09:23:36 PM
donputo69:  yo salt..you talk about me when i talk about your girl scareweather?..lmfaooo..you talk about him more than i do...lol..and the way you talk about him it sounds like you his girl or something..lmfaooo..anyway..im done talking to you..im gonna move on and find another villian..holla back...
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 11:13:14 PM
The REAL Salt lover:  Yeah, but I'ma big fan of his. It's obvious that I talk about him a lot, but you're a hater of Floyd. He shouldn't even be in your mind or in your comments. And if Floyd's a villain, that's the first villain who doesn't hate anybody like y'all do.
Thursday Jul 3, 2008 11:47:12 PM
Danny Gallardo:  If Pacquiao and Hatton fight will happen millions of Filipino people will travel to see the fight. It should be held in an open field to accomodate hundred thousand or even million of fans.

2009 Reader Of The Year Weighs In On Legacies Of Pacquiao And Mayweather
"Pacquiao has proven....in the ring... time and time again that he is the greatest of this time. He has earned his respect. He begs for nothing. He is a man content with his growth, his family and his achievements. A man the world has now turned it's eyes to behold. Floyd Mayweather is not even close in stature. He may possess the greatest skills but he is not the Face of Boxing today. Google Manny Pacquiao. There are 20 million searches. Google Floyd. There are 6.5 million. Look at the NYTimes, the Wall Street Journal and Time. Count how many words were used these past years to mention Floyd Mayweather. Then count the words still being printed about Manny. And keep counting. As I've said many times, Floyd has been too clever by half. He has short changed his public.....and has out-smarted himself. Manny will fight but a few more times. Enjoy it while you can. He is an all time great pugilist. Floyd, with all of his remarkable skills lack the will to be truly great in the biggest sense of the word. His legacy will look more like Holmes that Ali. He has earned it." ---November is half-way gone, but we don't need to keep counting ballots. It's a landslide. Fe'Roz has won the 2009 Reader of the Year award. His comments add to the website immeasurably, and he epitomizes the thoughtful, respectful, educated fan of pugilism we strive to cater to at TSS. Congrats, Fe'Roz, and please accept my thanks for being the valued member of this community that you are. Sincerely, Editor Mike
