TSS Prediction Page: Could Forbes Do It?
By Michael Woods
The best laid plans of mice and men sometimes go awry. On Saturday, could the mouse expected to be caught in a trap instead spring an upset of monumental proportions? Could Steve Forbes, he of the nine knockouts in 33 wins, emerge as a mouse that roared, and screw up Oscar De La Hoya’s best laid plan to exit the sport as an active participant in a blaze of glory and PPV profits?
I’ve asked around, and haven’t found any pundit to go out on a limb and predict a Forbes shocker win. But what about you, TSS Nation?
Anyone thinking Oscar might act his age tomorrow night in California, and get outworked by a fighter with quicker hands, quicker feet and more to gain with a win?
Could Steve Forbes channel Floyd Mayweather Jr. substantially more than Oscar, or seemingly anyone else, believes he is capable of? We’ve seen some tasty upsets this boxing season; Quintana over Williams, Campbell over Diaz, Phillips over Spinks. Might we add a mega-shocker to the list on Saturday? Weigh in, TSS Nation, if you think Forbes can pull it off.

No way, No shot. DLH must make a point. I say DLH by TKO and Forbes loses no respect.
I actually hope he lands a couple of solid shots that catch DLH off guard so he can gain some credit.

Look, no matter how well Forbes performs he is not going to win. Barring a KO for Forbes (By way of body shot), he is going to lose. Nothing (unfortunately) is going to derail the De la Hoya V. Mayweather 2 farse!

Given Oscar's age and Forbes savvy boxing this one should go all 12 with Oscar ahead by a few points.

He's done son!!!! Not fast enough, not strong enough... just out-classed. I guarantee you if it was DLH on the contender show he would have crushed all those guys i dont care what anyone says. Stevie won, but it wasn't like he breezed through it. So if he couldn't just slice and dice those guys, how the heck will he beat one of the best fighters in the world? yes DLH has been inactive, and yes he's older, but even an older less active de la hoya will beat alot of the top guys today. anyone disagree?

It would be humiliating for Oscar if he lost this fight. He would get kicked out of his own homecoming. Then we would get a rematch!

The line on this fight is almost enough risk/reward to throw a little down on Forbes...but no way should he win. Not enough power and there's little chance of eking out a decision (see: Sturm)

Hey RBK. if you want to make a bet, you should either bet this fight to go under in rounds or DLH by KO. You may be able to pull out a win on this fight not going the distance

Forbes is going to chop up Oscar, like chopping wood to start a fire. And he is going to start that fire. It is going to be hot in that ring, as Forbes burns up Golden Boy. All that gold is going be melting. But the judges will not believe their eyes, and will let Oscar get away with a bad-decision draw. The bout is close to Hollywood, so the judges will be full of make-believe and bull. An Oscar for Oscar at home in Cali! Holla!

OSCAR BY *CONTROVERSIAL * SPLIT DECISION!!! Reports are already surfacing that Oscar has been spending the last few days/weeks watching Floyd Mayweather footage rather then Oscar focusing on Forbes. So Oscar is underestimating him and I see Forbes giving him a really hard time with this ending in controversial fashion. One judge will rule for Oscar being paid off to set up a Floyd-Oscar rematch. One will judge right and give Forbes the nod, the other will convince himself Oscar did enough to win and give him a ridiculous winning score. I give Forbes a huge shot since he’s a bad style match up for Oscar and Oscar’s not really paying much attention to him!

If Forbes is able to unbalance and frustrate De la Hoya at all, Oscar will forget his jab, get flat-footed and start bullying the smaller man. If Forbes keeps his cool and boxes well and can hang in past the middle mark, it could be a long night. With so few knockouts in lower weight divisions, it's unlikely Forbes will KO Oscar, although that sure would be sweet. I'm guessing it will go the distance. Oscar will look awkward. Forbes will gain respect. The judges will hand it to Oscar. Cut to Money Mayweather in the crowd with dollar $ign$ in his eyes all blissed out and salivating.

Oscar wins easily. It should take Oscar about 7 rounds. Who ever picks Forbes to win we should all hoist him or her up on our shoulders for a victory parade!.

I can't believe the number of people saying Oscar is going to loose or get a very close and undeserved decision here or talking about the long shot; this is no Arturo Gatti implosion waiting to happen. Most likely Oscar is going to win by lopsided decision or stoppage. No controversy, no upset, Mr Forbes night will likely end in ashes and broken dreams.

I will predict it. Steve Forbes out boxes DLH and beats him to the punch to win by majority or split decision. He will win it unanimously, but the judges wont give it to him that way.

These are the same rantings espousing the Cotto debacle against Gomez! You guys have got to be kidding! There is no way that Forbes is going to win this fight. These are the reasons:
1. He, forbes, is going to be thouroughly outclassed.
2. He, forbes, doesn't have the power to exact any damage or back him up.
3. It's to Oscar's benefit to KO Forbes early (prior to 6 or 7 rounds) to generate more interest in the less than thrilling 1st fight of floyd.
4. He, forbes, was a really good lightweight with no power.
5. Oscar has a fight with PBF in September which should generate enough money, but not like the last fight.
I'm rooting for Forbes though!
Why doesn't Oscar tune-up with Cintron or Williams or Quintana ? He didn't choose any of the above because there would be a chance he might lose. Please don't mistake that Oscar, at this point of his career, is 80% business and 20% boxing. He will NOT take any fights that are too risky. He's too smart and to say that Forbes has a chance is ridiculous. This is a win-win for both Forbes and Oscar!
After the fight they'll coomend each other about how difficult the fight was and the fans will be left holding the bag again!
Boxing needs to give us something we want to see! Cotto-Margarito is a start!

Oscar will be whispering in Forbes' ear late in the fight ala Ray Mercer to Jesse Ferguson if he senses a Sturm redux. Under NO circumstances will Forbes win a decision. Oscar by wide, unanimous margins. But, I am rooting for Forbes with every fiber of my being. I would LOVE for the September rematch/waste of time/bad for boxing sparring session to be derailed.

I can understand why a lot of people don't want to see Oscar win because of the upcoming rematch with PBF but why are we directing all of our fire at DLH when PBF agreed to take a rematch instead of facing Cotto or Margarito?
Wasn't it Floyd who was saying after the first fight that he would like a rematch. Oscar is just giving the man what he wants (even if its not what WE want).
Go Oscar!

Who cares about the outcome and who cares about his next fight. I'll make a prediction for a future fight instead and a proper one at that. Mijares over Munoz. As for Mayweather-Oscar, again who wants to see this when we're getting a fight like Cotto-Margarito.

Radam G , you are right!!! Just like when you said Margarito was going to get knocked out by Cintron and Gomez was going to give Cotto hell. Lets not forget that this is a televised sparring session for Oscar. Hey at least you are trying to make it sound like its going to be a competitive bout . But this is a reality tv fighter against a real fighter , slight difference. Well maybe Oscar could trip over his own feet and hits his jaw on Steve's fist before landing on the canvas.

Actions Speak So Loudly, Can't Hear What You're Saying
"Here's the problem with Winky, the man has OUTPRICED himself so many times that no one wants to even deal with him any more. Wright believes he's entitled to a fight with Pavlik or Oscar, but come on, a draw with Taylor, and he then refuses to do the rematch, followed by a easy win over Quartey, and then the UGLY fight with B-Hop. No one wants to see him after that. Winky needs to go back to the basics and work his way back to a big fight; sitting on the sidelines crying out for a $ fight ain't the way to do it. Get back in the ring. Actions speak louder than words."
