Slice is a powerful slugger, who puts butts in seats. Could he finish off another elder MMA statesman, Shamrock, next?

Kimbo Slice Finishes Off UFC Vet Tank Abbott

By Michael Woods

You'd be forgiven if you hurried past Kimbo Slice or Tank Abbott if you were alone with either in a dark alley. Each fighter has an aura of malevolence that has won them more than one fight before the action commenced.

On Saturday evening in Miami, it was Slice, the streetfighting YouTube sensation, whose malevolence won out, as he demolished UFC veteran Abbott in the first round with a parcel of sledgehammer blows.

The end of the heavyweight meeting came at :43 seconds of the first, though it looked like it could have ended earlier, as Tank hit the deck just seconds into the scrap after Slice landed some stinging shots that buzzed the first generation UFC star.

This could easily be the end of the road for Abbott, who is 42 years old. He has been busy writing his autobio, and this could stand as the final chapter.

Slice's power surprised Abbott, who dismissed him as an overhyped media creation before the bout.

Slice, trained by Bas Rutten, is now 2-0, while Abbott slides to 9-14.

Slice's straight right finished the deal, sending Abbott to the floor, face first, separated from his senses.

After, Slice  talked to Bill Goldberg. He thanked God, told people to go to the after party at Opium, and complimented Abbott for being an MMA original.

"My hat goes off to you Tank, man," Slice said.

Radam G:  I am sure that there were limited skills involved. And it was probably Showtime lowest rating telecast in history. Boxing and the NBA All-Star game no doubt out did this hugging, holding and grabbing hyped-up combat. Most power to them. I am get ill on my haterrade -- Just kidding. Grin! Holla!

Bryan:  YOU TUBE or not everybody has to like KIMBO. This guy is a true athlete, he doesn't talk crap unless you want it and he is a true good sport. Even before his MMA stuff he was a good guy in the "ring". Keep it up man you got my support 100%........
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 12:49:00 AM
jay:  man dont call out some one you couldnt take in his prime you need to go to a real fightin organization if you think you are that bad!!!!
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 03:17:44 AM
Russ:  Tank I know you love fighting but it is time to turn down these fights. No-Name MMA fight groups hire Tank because he is a major name, but like most of the FirstGen fighters have not been able to move past their big days. Tank has never changed. No new moves, still no kicks or knees. Please Tank just call it a day before your record gets anymore one sided.
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 05:51:47 AM
Allyn:  Hey jay I was watching the video and I didn't see the part where Kimbo called Tank out. As a matter of fact I never even heard him say he thought he was so bad. I sense a little Kimbo hating going on. If you think elite xc is not a real organization then why not strap on the gloves and go take out these fakers. Kimbo never said I want millions of fans, he got them by beating up people just like every other fighter. So when you say things like don't call out someone you couldn't beat in his prime, you should take your own advice and shut the hell up.

Dilettante:  Tank retire? No, HELL no! I could watch his bell get rung as long as he can continue to drag his sorry fat ass up to the plate! And, since it seems to take less than a minute, not a lot of blood and gore (just stars;-), I will even bring my kids...as not only a lesson in [bad] Karma, but also, as a text book definition of stupidity. I say, "Tank, keep up the great work...you're a true example to our youth!

cat:  way to go kimbo, now for a dream match? how about Royce Gracie VS. Kimbo Slice-----but have it old school the way Royce used to fight---not a few rounds with 3 minutes between--im sure Kimbo would go for it
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 03:10:22 PM
boxingfan:  Kimbo is an athlete , but put in there with Fedor and he'll be exposed.
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 03:35:23 PM
BoxingInsider.BlogSpot:  He just got sum good hands, when he fights a complete fighter he will be done with. Someone like like Rampage will kill kimbo. Im not saying hes a bumb he just not a top tier fighter. A goood fight might be with Cro Crop since there both strikers.
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 05:17:59 PM
Cal:  The fight was an absolute war. Kimbo Slice is the most electric fighter since a prime Tyson. Kimbo has been trying to lure Tyson in for a KO to bolster his resume. I'd like to see it happen though Tyson would get hurt badly, and I don't want to see that. I wish that Kimbo would dump MMA and get in the boxing ring. I think he's a top 5 guy right now, and that's with no official fights. Kimbo would KO pretty much everyone except Klitschko, though he definitely has heavier hands than the Dr, Ironfist and takes a better punch. The money is what drives this guy and I don't think he's making huge money in MMA. In boxing, he'd be at 7 figures per fight. A title fight at the end of the year would bring him 10 million. Kimbo, enter the heavyweight division!!!
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 07:09:15 PM
LIH:  What a joke. The Bimbo Slice bandwagon that is. Did anyone see Tank Abbott? The guy was in miserable, and I mean miserable, shape. Bimbo needs to beat someone more noteworthy than Adrian and/or other out of shape convicts in order to impress me. And didn't he lose to some retired firefighter? Have him fight a real opponent and we'll have to watch him get mopped up off the floor. MMA is ridiculous. And what are all these different promotion outfits? UFC, Pride, CCWC, Showtime's version, etc, etc, etc. It's like they've borrowed the bad habit from boxing's sanctioning bodies. Only it's worse, because none of these guys can fight each other. MMA is going downhill in a hurry.

Smiley C:  Imfao! Cal, u r out of yr head, where u apparently don't have much brains, r maybe they r all smooth. Tyson would kill Kimbo. N Kimbo could not beat a fifth tier boxer. This guy stinks. Let him stick with street fighting. Because he wants no part of the squared jungle. Some people r so slow up above the neck, and will believe anything. Dude u need some serious mental help. Perhaps Dr. Phil. For real!

Fredo:  Tank Abbott has always been a little flabby, but make no mistake, that cat was in shape. He was in with a budding great, and that's why he lost. I don't care for MMA too much, but this Kimbo is a superstar. He seems to be a genuine role model and a guy that can catapult the sport into the mainstream and appeal to soccer moms and the like.
Sunday Feb 17, 2008 09:43:25 PM
Tank fan:  Oh Yeah Kimbo's a real role model indeed. Hitting to the back of the head =putting his hands on the official. You know I have NO RESPECT for Kimblow - and I ALSO HAVE no Respect for Bas for training this disrespectful degenerate. I hope Tank continues to fight. Tank is a good fighter -I don't believe the better man won this fight. Id like to see a rematch.

suucka211:  i dont care who you are, kimbo is the man. ya he might get taken down some day, but until then u cant say a dam thing about him. i cant even picture him getting man handled in the cage but anything could happen. people thought this would be a fight and he made tank look like a little kid in there, on the street it would've been over in the first 15 seconds. kimbo is a monster period and is THE MIKE TYSON OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
Monday Feb 18, 2008 09:41:52 AM
Santoga:  Kimbo is the most feared man in all of fighting. He has an aura about him similar to that of one Michael Gerard Tyson. Nobody else brings that to the cage or the ring. I'm very surprised Dana White didn't snatch him up for the UFC. That's a huge regret on his part, guaranteed. Kimbo would decimate any of the UFC heavyweights, and the PPV would be off the charts.
Monday Feb 18, 2008 10:53:24 AM
rudy:  Gotta agree with suucka, Kimbo is MMA's version of Mike Tyson -- thug off the streets of Miami, the guy is fun to watch.
Tuesday Feb 19, 2008 08:58:03 AM
Xfactor:  Kimbo Slice, the butterbean of EliteXC. They are going to just make money off this dude and feed him tomato cans. That guy who said that Kimbo is a top five heavyweight boxer obviously never watches fights. Kimbo wouldnt win Golden Gloves at his weight. The rest of you are ridiculous to even think this dude is anything until he stops fighting bums. He isnt even on the same level as Brock Lesnar. Wake up. How old are some of you? You sound like little kids making stupid comments. Oh well, call me when Slice fights someone that actually has a little talent. Oh, and Tank never trains and just tires out after 20 seconds. He went down the first time against Slice and I didnt see any punch land. What a joke.
Tuesday Feb 19, 2008 03:06:47 PM
Bo:  LIH- I'm sure that the Kimster is working so hard to impress "you". Clearly, you're too emotional about this. Maybe you and "Tank fan" should have a slumber party and have a good ol fashioned pillow fight. Afterwards, you can console each other's girly-girl feelings. P.S. Don't forget your hankee
Tuesday Feb 19, 2008 03:07:43 PM
btk:  "There's a sucker born every minute." That adage certainly applies to all you Kimbo Slice aficionados.
Tuesday Feb 19, 2008 06:26:31 PM
rudy:  I would take Kimbo against any MMA fighter right now. The man can punch your head off and MMA fighters in the UFC, Elite XC, Pride, WEC all have GLASS CHINS. None of those fools can take a flush shot to the head, one and done --- that's how Kimbo is going to Slice his way through the MMA scene.
Wednesday Feb 20, 2008 09:07:27 AM
nick:  The guy is 2-0. Who cares. In 6 months after he's been beaten he'll go back to Miami and rot. Why are they trying to hype up his fights? All they're giving him are guys that were in their prime 10 years ago. They're talking Shamrock or Couture now. These guys are pushing 50! Might as well have Kimbo go beat up his dad. Bas Rutten talks like he wants to baby Kimbo because they want to ride this moneymaking machine as long as they can until he gets whipped. I'd like to see him fight Fedor...or even his brother Aleksander. That would be worth watching.
Thursday Feb 21, 2008 12:23:08 AM
rudy:  Nick: Couture, Shamrock, and company are the best MMA has to offer.
Thursday Feb 21, 2008 10:20:27 AM
kid:  kimbo is one of the best mma fighters today by far
Monday Feb 25, 2008 12:35:08 PM
Grind:  Hmmm, Kimbo Slice MMA?? LMAO.. He hasn't even fought anyone. His "street fights" are all against fat guys, and what appear to be kids. His so called "legal" fights have been against nobodys..has beens.. Tank Abbot is a fair fighter, but that's it..He is in no way shape or form a fighter to bring up ranks. As far as I'm concerned, Kimbo had one fight against a fairly good opponent, and guess what? He lost.. Sean beat him in a very long match as far as street fights go. Putting him in with the likes of Lidell, Krokup, hell...Butterbean would bring Kimbo down. Putting Kimbo in UFC or Pride would just prove that you can put a chump on tv anywhere.

albert:  kimbo is a pussy
Thursday May 8, 2008 02:02:40 PM
angelo:  kimbo is a circus attraction. his fight with tank is a circus attraction, just as tank is nothing but just another circus attraction. the fan base is part of the circus act since they know nothing about the science of fighting and only looks for mindless circus fun. put them both against any decent boxer and they'll be picked apart like chicken. they don't have any skill and can't fightin any style except for brawling. watch vitali klitscko's fight with danny williams and you'll get an idea how kimbo would fare against a fighter with skill. (except that danny williams has more skills than kimbo.

DA-ROCK:  Look im not sure what some of you all know about MMA or KIMBO, but Kimbo is 1 hell of a bare knuckles fighter I cant think of any one better. He is not much of a MMA fighter just yet, but has a chin of steel and vicious hand very fast and OMG powerful. You are right he hasn't fought anyone yet in MMA, right now they are just exploring their options, reviewing him ( KIMBO) and making a ton of money. Right now in the octagon there are plenty of guys that can beat him, but I can asure you that who ever his oponant is they will have to take him to the mat and introduce him to some ground and pound, cause from what i've seen they would be a fool to stand with him exspecially after he gets all his cardio in order. Standing up he will knock anyone out that chooses to be that foolish. I can't wait to see him get conditioned and experienced in MMA and if this happens we could be looking at a future legend!!!!!!!!!!!!

YO:  AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh kimbo kills all
Tuesday Sep 9, 2008 10:19:14 AM
SERIOUS:  The dream match up now would be Brock Lesnar vs Kimbo Slice. Two enormous powerhouses who are fairly new to the sport with massive power in their hands. That would be amazing
Tuesday Sep 9, 2008 03:13:47 PM
CUBA:  KImbo can fight but he is not an elite heavy weight Noguiera Frank Mir Fedor Cro COp Josh Barnett fedor's brother(I can't spell his name) all of these guys would beat Kimbo the guy that lasted the rounds with Kimbo that got his ear busted was anilated by fedors bro in the first few seconds of the first round

2009 Reader Of The Year Weighs In On Legacies Of Pacquiao And Mayweather
"Pacquiao has proven....in the ring... time and time again that he is the greatest of this time. He has earned his respect. He begs for nothing. He is a man content with his growth, his family and his achievements. A man the world has now turned it's eyes to behold. Floyd Mayweather is not even close in stature. He may possess the greatest skills but he is not the Face of Boxing today. Google Manny Pacquiao. There are 20 million searches. Google Floyd. There are 6.5 million. Look at the NYTimes, the Wall Street Journal and Time. Count how many words were used these past years to mention Floyd Mayweather. Then count the words still being printed about Manny. And keep counting. As I've said many times, Floyd has been too clever by half. He has short changed his public.....and has out-smarted himself. Manny will fight but a few more times. Enjoy it while you can. He is an all time great pugilist. Floyd, with all of his remarkable skills lack the will to be truly great in the biggest sense of the word. His legacy will look more like Holmes that Ali. He has earned it." ---November is half-way gone, but we don't need to keep counting ballots. It's a landslide. Fe'Roz has won the 2009 Reader of the Year award. His comments add to the website immeasurably, and he epitomizes the thoughtful, respectful, educated fan of pugilism we strive to cater to at TSS. Congrats, Fe'Roz, and please accept my thanks for being the valued member of this community that you are. Sincerely, Editor Mike
