| Rampage came in ripped, and ready to rock. It isn't like he had to start from scratch on a game plan to stop Liddell's win streak. He'd done it before, in brutal fashion, in 2003. |

Rampage Jackson Vows To Down Liddell In 3
By Michael Woods
"He thinks he's invincible now. He's not invincible."
Chuck Liddell is on top of the world right now. He's in full mount position on top of his vocation, and his visibility, and approval ratings, are massive.
But Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has seen Liddell on the other side, on his back, being battered, absorbing a sickening level of punishment. Rampage was the deliverer of the beating, Liddell's last loss, and that was from another era. That was back on Nov. 9, 2003.
Ordinarily, a fighter coming up to a rematch with a person who whupped them will be in a state of mental flux. Even if they are on a superlative win-streak, even if their skills have blossomed since the loss, in the back recesses of their brain, there is the nagging thought: this dude has my number.
This guy knows how to beat me.
But Liddell is known for being the MMA avenger of defeats, as he's turned the tables on conquerors Randy Couture and Jeremy Horn.
Rampage, though, vows that Liddell won't turn the proverbial table on him. The born again battler, who wears a tattoo that says "Rampage God's Street Soldier," vows that it will be more of the same come Saturday in Vegas for Liddell.
"Chuck has confidence," Rampage told TSS. "He thinks he can do anything he wants. He thinks he's invincible. He's not invincible."
Prediction, please, Rampage...
"I'm feeling real confident," says the 28-year-old who lives in Orange County, California. "Chuck may be going down in the third."
I asked Jackson for his recollection of the 2003 victory in Japan, and his reply was unexpected.
"I beat Chuck? I thought he beat me. I had two fights that night...his corner threw in the towel? I took some punishment that night..."
I'm presuming Jackson was goofing a bit, as on other occasions he has better recall of the ground 'n pound ending. Regardless, he says that in the present day, he has grown as an artist, while Liddell, to him, has stayed stagnant.
"I got better as a fighter," he says. "My footwork, my punching has gotten better. He looks the same to me."
Jackson's mental state, he says, should be solid, as he is working to repair relations with his wife, after the two separated. He is serene, he says, and holds no personal animus towards Liddell.
"It's not personal, there's no dislike," he says. "I don't care about him being on the magazine cover of ESPN. Nobody knows who I am, he deserves all that stuff."
SPEEDBAG Jackson has four kids, "four beautiful kids," he makes certain to mention.
He has three boys, two of whom have been graced with the middle name Rampage. His middle son, who Jackson says will be in his custody soon, will also be given the same middle name. Oh, and his dog is named Rampage, too, for the record.
Why not name 'em all the first-name Rampage, like George Foreman, who named his sons George? Jackson agreed with me that course might be a bit too egotistical.
--The nickname Rampage was given to Quinton at age 8, by his cousin. The reason? He had a ferocious temper. "It was the worst temper on earth," he said. Now, Jackson says, there is no room for temper tantrums, inside the ring, or out.

Boxing RIP:
|
The best thing for both boxing and MMA would be for Liddell to quickly end this bout then throw on the boxing gloves, travel to Germany on his own dime, and KO Wladimir Klitschko inside a round (which he'd do very, very easily). Why not be heavyweight champion of the world? Seriously, why not? Is it bad for his reume? No! He should do it for free. There's just no risk in it for him and it would be great for his resume and for MMA. Then he could go back to MMA full time.

are you kidding me? forget about Wladimir, Chuck couldn't even hang with Vitali! forget about the size difference first of all. realistically they would never get matched up together. but have you seen the damage boxers do with 16 oz. gloves? imagine what they'd do with 4 oz'ers? besides that, the stamina factor? these guys are trained to go on for 12-15 rounds! that's almost an hour if you don't already know. meanwhile getting beaten during each and every round, usually. do you really think an MMA puncher (like Liddell) can hang in a boxing ring? hell no!
i will give you this though. most boxers wouldn't be able to hang in the octogan either. simply because of the ground work that they OBVIOUSLY don't have the training for. unless the MMA fighter is stupid enough to relinquish his advantages and actually go toe-to-toe with the boxer, (in which case he would deserve every bit of the lickin' that he would receive) then he's got the fight made.

All Kimbo baby:

We have got to get Kimbo Slice signed into the UFC. He'll be unbeatable and will KO Rampage and Couture inside of 2 minutes.

Kimbo lost to Sean Gannon who was a mediocre mixed martial artist. I have a feeling he's going to pummel Mercer though. Who knows?

Kimbo has arrived:
|
Boxing's dead! Look, this is not Ray Mercer's maiden voyage into MMA. He's 0-2! In one loss, he was knocked out in 15 seconds! And Mercer is a guy considered to have one of the best chins in boxing history. Mercer won an olympic gold medal and fought Lennox Lewis (many thought he eked it out) and Evander Holyfield tooth and nail. It just proves that MMA is the major leagues and boxing is, at best, A ball (maybe even High School level ball). Sam Peter, Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko, Nicolai Valuev and the rest all would be absolutely NOT competitive in MMA. They'd be entry level type guys that would not survive in UFC because they'd all be 0-whatever. They wouldn't win a fight against even the average 150 pound guys in UFC. If they could, they would. As for Kimbo, he's being properly trained and after he KO's Mercer (which he'll do with ease), hopefully Dana White signs him because he'd be a great role model and poster boy for the UFC. His prison time is behind him and he's incredibly charismatic and well spoken. You heard it here - Kimbo Slice will be on a Wheaties box sooner rather than later.

Kimbo Slice on a Wheaties box?!?! You'll see him hog-tied and in a straight jacket before he's on the aforementioned cereal box. I'm surprised his street fights aren't parole violations. You ever heard of James "The Hammer" Butler and Clifford "The Black Rhino" Ettienne? Kimbo did 10 years in state prison for some undisclosed crime. Some role model. And if Kimbo wins via knockout against Ray Mercer he'll make $85,000. If he's that good, why doesn't he fight either Klitschko or Sam Peter for 10 times that. After all, there is much more money in boxing than MMA. Some of you need a urinalysis. I believe that Competitive Eating (Kobayashi) is as much a "sport" as MMA.

2009 Reader Of The Year Weighs In On Legacies Of Pacquiao And Mayweather
"Pacquiao has proven....in the ring... time and time again that he is the greatest of this time. He has earned his respect. He begs for nothing. He is a man content with his growth, his family and his achievements. A man the world has now turned it's eyes to behold. Floyd Mayweather is not even close in stature. He may possess the greatest skills but he is not the Face of Boxing today. Google Manny Pacquiao. There are 20 million searches. Google Floyd. There are 6.5 million. Look at the NYTimes, the Wall Street Journal and Time. Count how many words were used these past years to mention Floyd Mayweather. Then count the words still being printed about Manny. And keep counting. As I've said many times, Floyd has been too clever by half. He has short changed his public.....and has out-smarted himself. Manny will fight but a few more times. Enjoy it while you can. He is an all time great pugilist. Floyd, with all of his remarkable skills lack the will to be truly great in the biggest sense of the word. His legacy will look more like Holmes that Ali. He has earned it." ---November is half-way gone, but we don't need to keep counting ballots. It's a landslide. Fe'Roz has won the 2009 Reader of the Year award. His comments add to the website immeasurably, and he epitomizes the thoughtful, respectful, educated fan of pugilism we strive to cater to at TSS. Congrats, Fe'Roz, and please accept my thanks for being the valued member of this community that you are. Sincerely, Editor Mike
