Darchinyan KOs Gabi

Defending IBF flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan stopped Filipino challenger Diosdado Gabi with a straight left in round number eight at the Chumash Casino Resort in Sta. Ynez (CA) to retain his title Friday night in a bout televised on ShoBox.

A 25-year-old native of Lasang, Davao City, Philippines, Gabi (26-3-1, 19 KOs) struggled to his feet at the count of nine, but referee David Mendoza waved it off giving at 2:42, giving Darchinyan his seventh straight early stoppage.

Gabi won the first three rounds on the scorecards, but Darchinyan used his superior reach and height advantage to fire hard shots from the outside to wear his man down.

Darchinyan's record now stands at 25-0 with 20 KOs.
