Boxing News: Golden Gloves Results from ESPN Classic

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (May 21, 2005) - Daniel Jacobs of New York City defeated Williams Boggs of Pennsylvania to capture the 165-pound division of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions on Saturday night at State House Convention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jacobs was one of eleven champions crowned, with two fighters from nearby Knoxville - Roberto Ceron (106 pounts) and Jeremy Bryon (141 pounds). Boxers from Washington, DC, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Cleveland, the Mid-South, Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas were also victorious. 

Golden Gloves originated in Chicago in 1923. The first National Tournament of Champions took place in 1927 matching New York and Chicago. Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions is deemed one of the greatest American championship traditions in all of sports.

Golden Gloves of American is a 501-c3 organization consisting of 30 regional chapters dedicated to inner-city youth outreach and upholding the greatest ideals of amateur boxing. Golden Gloves of America is a qualifying tournament program to the Olympic Team Trials - 2007 winners automatically qualify for 2008.

106 lbs: Roberto Ceron (Knoxville) defeated Marco Rangel (Nevada)
112 lbs: Barry Daniels (St Louis) defeated Teddy Padilla Jr. (Nevada)
119 lbs: Gary Russell Jr. (Washington DC) defeated Sergio Perales (Texas)
125 lbs: Prentice Brewer (Cleveland) defeated Samson Guillermo (Wisconsin)
132 lbs: Michael Evans (Cincinnati) defeated Diego Magdaleno (Nevada)
141 lbs:  Jeremy Bryan (Knoxville) defeated Henry Lundy (Pennsylvania)
152 lbs: Brad Solomon (Mid-South) defeated Demetrius Andrade (New England)
165 lbs: Daniel Jacobs (New York) defeated William Boggs (Pennsylvania)
178 lbs: Rommel Rene (Florida) defeated Dalemanik-Robeson El (Washington DC)
201 lbs: Eric Fields (Kansas/Oklahoma) defeated Anthony Grano (New England)
201+ lbs: Gregory Corbin (Texas) defeated Nate James (New England)
