Vinny Paz to be honored at Ring 8 Holiday Party

By Joe Dwyer

Veteran Boxers Association, Ring #8 will be honoring four time World Champion, Vinny Paz, as well as the “Bayonne Bleeder” Chuck Wepner, crowd pleasing Light Heavyweight Johnny Persol, and Manager/Trainer Al Certo at their annual Holiday party being held at the Waterfront Crab House in Long Island City, New York.

It’s a great opportunity for boxing fans to rub elbows with some of the top names in boxing both past and present. Sure to be in attendance will be former Welterweight contender and Ring 8 president, Bobby Bartels, Joe Miceli, Vinnie Cidone, Eugene “Silent” Hairston, Charlie Noel, Johnny Colan, Danny Giovanelli,  as well as former Featherweight Champion, Juan LaPorte.

Paz will be honored with the “ World Champion” Award for his contributions to the sport of boxing as well as his tenacity in overcoming what for most would have been a career ending injury.

Wepner is to be awarded the “real” Rocky Award for the heart, determination, and courage exhibited throughout his career.

Certo will receive the Ray Arcel, Trainer Award in recognition of his work with Champion Buddy McGirt, and Mustafa Hamsho Persol will be awarded the “Uncrowned Champion” Award

In addition to the opportunity to meet with this gathering of great boxers you are assured of a  great meal from our host, Tony Mazzarella. The price remains at $75 per person, a true bargain in this day and age.

Ring 8 throughout the year looks after the less fortunate former fighter’s who are in need of financial as well as medical assistance. For information on tickets (limited seating available) as well as directions, call the Waterfront Crab House at (718) 729-4862

Angie And Goody...23 Years Later
Twenty three years later after they seconded Marvin Hagler and Ray Leonard in Las Vegas, Goody Petronelli and Angelo Dundee crossed paths again. This time, it was at Foxwoods. Photo/friend of TSS "The Iceman" John Scully reports there were only pleasantries exchanged. Goody didn't debate the split decision victory enjoyed by Leonard, which to this day Hagler disputes.
