Seems Like No Cotto-Canelo Winner For GGG, So…

So many 3G fans are in a state of mourning, or, at least, minor depression.

Miguel Cotto has been sending signals and outright stating that he’s focused on beating Canelo, and then trying to get a rematch with Mayweather.

Canelo Alvarez has said he’s in no rush to leave junior middleweight, or junior middleweight plus…and we can infer that even if he beats Cotto, he won’t be taking on the Golovkin challenge in his next fight.

I wondered how Golovkin trainer Abel Sanchez is feeling. Over the last year plus, he’s been at times a tad irked that the sports’ A grade types haven’t looked to step up to the the plate, wanted to go to 160 and topple this middleweight king. But today, Sanchez seemed in an accepting mode. “I never really thought either would fight Triple G next…maybe in the future Canelo might,” he said.

So…seems like you kept your expectations low?”

Realist!” he replied.

So, not angry then? “I am focused on my guys’ having fight dates…all those other things work themselves out for the best, for their careers and for boxing,” he said.

Really tragic. There are zero excuses now for either of them; after eachother GGG is the last man standing (at Cottoweight aka 15? lbs). HBO would pay either guy a ton of money to face GGG. They flat out don't want to fight the kid, no question about it. GGG will need to dog these two to get them in the ring. Cotto squirms openly when asked about it. Canelo says basically "maybe someday" which means no. Champions do not behave this way.

Oh yes champions do behave this way since time immemorial. Ducking a dangerous opponent to hold on to the strap is as boxing as getting stripped by the alphabet-sanctioning organizations for not paying a bribe and/or a sanction fee. Holla!

Well then not honorable champions! GGG is looking to unify all belts and Cotto and Canelo are looking to hide under their beds!

No doubt! Cotto and Canelo are being boxing as its true self. Prizefighting first and foremost. And not thinking about pride fighting a dangerous-arse 3g. Too bad for 3g. But that is how the game has always rolled 95 percent of the time. Ain't no champ going to dance with a killa champ. No way, no how! The "honorable champions" that you are speaking of ended up injured and/or mug-light blinded before their time. The uber-great Harry Greb comes to mind. He would fight anybody anytime and anywhere. And lost his sight for his honorable champion toughness. And look how messed up Terry Norris is for being an "honorable champion" willing to get it on with all the tough arses of his division. He is now all messed up with PD. Machismo in this sport will get you da double fudged wreck for dancing with an uber killa like 3g. And in this game, there is honor, more moolah and a longer, safer career in having a little bytch punk in you. Hehe! It is all right to be like water -- over 97 percent salty rough and the rest -- less than three percent -- softy pure. Put yourself in the shoes of those hiding under their beds from 3g. Would not you take safety over honorable? Probably not. You are A-seng. Haha! Too tough for your own good. But the most embarrassing act for a pug is not ducking, but going "No mas" during the scrap. And that is a rap. Holla!

Interesting comments. BJ Saunders has basically said the same, Quillin seems terrified. Better hope Jacobs and Lee win, these guys seem tough/mad enough to get in with the wrecking machine that's Triple G. If not, he'll surely have no other options than moving up.

Regarding the future, it does not seem likely that Golovkin will be facing wither Cotto or Canelo anytime soon. I think Cotto has absolutely zero intentions of ever fighting Golovkin. I could see Canelo someday but Golden Boy will not allow him in the ring with Golovkin until they get some more paydays out of him. My guess for the immediate future is this. Unless Cotto-Canelo is an absolutely one sided fight either way, we see a rematch next May. Golovkin will stay busy and probably fight Tuareno Johnson next. Frankly, there are not many other options for Golovkin. Then if Andy Lee beats Saunders we will see HBO pay up for Golovkin-Lee next spring/summer at the Garden where it will sell easily. Lets keep in mind no Haymon fighters will be getting in the ring with Golovkin so that takes away Quillin and Jacobs for example as well as most of the top Super Middleweights.

Yes good points and I understand. Then let go of the belt so others can rightfully fight for it at the true mw limit. Those guys have no worries about money so they can choose to play it safe. The excuses tho are embarrassing. Canelo at 174 on fight night. Come on.

I agree. I wonder how much the fighters are aware of the embarassement, or if they somehow justify or rationalize their own behaveour as being "just". For example, Canelo's statement "not giving any advantage to ggg bc of may fight" is illogical, yet he seemed like he believes he is in the right..
