Team Provodnikov Wants Rios

brandon-rios

It was looking like we'd see a Brandon Rios vs. Tim Bradley tangle and that plan went off the rails. Now, it's looking like fight fans could get a clash featuring two names which I think would satisfy the urge to see contained violence, a steady and high dose.

I heard whispers so I reached out to manager Vadim Kornilov, who handles Ruslan Provodnikov, coming off a loss to Lucas Matthysse.

Is Ruslan vs Rios Plan A right now? “If Team Rios wants to do it, yes. If not, we have other options in Russia,” Kornilov told me. “We might have even more money for Rios versus Ruslan in Russia!”

Ohh, the “m” word, that sounds enticing

!”We want the fight so it's up to Rios and his team,” he stated.

Readers, who wins Provodnikov versus Rios and how, if it achieves liftoff?

I have long thought this would be a real barn burner. Hopefully it gets made, as I would love to see it. To answer your question Woodsy; I am not sure who wins. It depends on how much Rios has left, and I hear he likes the late nights and parties at the moment. Provodnikov still seems pretty hungry. Rios will need to be in top shape to beat a fit, ready, and hungry Provodnikov; especially considering neither guy has much of a defence and Rios doesn't usually have fight ending "power". Rios is probably the better "all round" (if that word can apply here) operator in a boxing sense - but Provodnikov probably has the bigger punch. That said, Rios' defence is also a bit better than Provodnikov's too; when he decides to use it. Both guys are nuts in the ring and love to trade; it would be an excellent fight. :)

-Carmine Cas :

I see Provodnikov shortening Rios' career significantly, unless Rios learns better defense. But I'd love to see this fight.

-Skibbz :

Once the first over hand right lands, Rios' tongue will begin to loll out of his mouth, eyes glassy as he mumbles an incoherent "me gusta" before a second right drops him onto the canvas, sprawled with his limbs pointing in 3 different directions. There will only be one outcome.

-stormcentre :

Yep, no doubt about it, Rios will need to be in the form he was in many years ago to successfully compete and survive. :)

-amayseng :

make it happen Rios likes to get punched in the face and make fun of handicapped. I would pay ppv money for this one with a solid under card to watch Rios enter into a state of vegetation.

I would love to see this fight happen but it doesn't sound like at the moment Arum and Top Rank are too interested in seeing it. The reason is simple and it is that they know Provodnikov gives a beating to Rios that would no doubt take a lot out of him. And Top Rank would rather put Rios in with one of their guys (remember they tried to make Bradley-Rios but Bradley was asking for too much money) to help further one of their guys careers. I think when the dust settles, we see Rios-Jessie Vargas towards the end of the year. If Rios loses that one, then Top Rank looks for the cash out and the Provodnikov fight. But until Rios' value is down to near zilch, the Provodnikov fight is unlikely.

I am on the other side of this one. I think that tSR is damage goods, and would lose to Bam Bam. Holla!

They both are worn down though I think Rios is more so. LM put a beating on TSR but I think Pac's 12 rounds of onslaught missiles detonating on Rios's face is more damaging.
