Wilder Update

This sounds like it could be the year of the Furys, if indeed this rumor plays out, and cousin Hughie Fury gets a crack at WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder. We already know that long tall Tyson will get his cracks at crowns when he gloves up with acknowledged king of the class Wladimir Klitschko in October.

I checked in with Bronze Bomber co manager and co trainer Jay Deas to sign off on that grapevine chatter, that Hughie was offered a Wilder bout.

“No idea (if Hughie had been contacted),” Deas told me. “Keep in mind matchmakers call us all the time with guys. They throw names out there without any validity whatsoever. Someone might have reached out to Peter (Fury, who trains Hugh and Tyson) but if it didn’t come from me, Al or Shelly (Finkel) it is not viable.”

Ok so it’s a dispatch from Rumorville…

Fight Briggs! Briggs is a legit threat.Taking on a 16 fight novice is no way for a belt holder to act. if Wilder can stop Briggs he will get credit.

Ectomorph!!! I dont know what the big deal here is with Wilder! The only guy he beat of note in his entire career was Cruiserweight Raheem Chakikiev in which he did in the amutuers!

These are called voluntary defenses. I was told by Wilder that he intends to face his mandatory--Alexander Povetkin--and I believe him. If 2016 comes and goes and Wilder still hasn't fought Povetkin, then I'll explode. But not while he still can take some voluntary defenses. I would guess there may even be one more voluntary late this year before Wilder signs with Povetkin. -Randy G.

Wilder will get credit if he signs and fights Povetkin. Povetkin is top 5 heavyweight in the world and no pushover. Wilder was already served Molina, if he wants to keep busy while waiting for Povetkin than he can take on another journeyman but it should be a credible journeyman, like former lineal champ Briggs. or how bout little fast Eddie Chambers? I wouldn't mind seeing fast Eddie testing Wilder.

You're right about Briggs & Chambers being given a shot, as long as Wilder is playing with voluntary defenses. Poor Briggs has been chasing Wladimir Klitschko all over the place, has won a handful of bouts against second & third rate pugs, has gotten himself rated by most of the sanctioninbg bodies & has been entertaining us with his "Let's Go Champ" videos. The least Klitschko could do is give him the shot already, beat him up & retire him. Wilder, too. Eddie Chambers. Hmm. Good choice. A bit too small for Wilder but certainly as skilled as anybody out there Wilder has fought. -Randy G.

D-Wild is a motor mouth. The big, heavyweight king of the South. I wanna see him step up and scrap with a warm, uninjuried body. And then I will be able to judge him. Holla!
