GUERRERO: “It’s Time To Go To War!”

ROBERT GUERRERO CAMP UPDATE

FORMER FOUR-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION BATTLES

ARON MARTINEZ ON PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS ON NBC

SATURDAY, JUNE 6 AT STUBHUB CENTER

Coverage on NBC Starts At 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT

GILROY, CA (May 26, 2015) – While entering the final days of training camp, four-division world champion, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (32-3-1, 18 KOs), gives his thoughts on his upcoming PBC on NBC main-event attraction against Aron Martinez. The 10-round bout will take place at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., June 6, 2015 and will air live on NBC starting at 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT.

On fighting in the PBC on NBC main-event:

“First I really want to thank Al Haymon for bringing boxing back to the fans. This is another wonderful opportunity where fans from all walks of life can see me fight on NBC for free. PBC on NBC has taken boxing back to its glory days and I’m honored to be headlining my second show. Everyone knows I come to fight and you can expect the same when I step in the ring with Martinez.

On staying active

“When a fighter is constantly staying busy, it makes a world of difference. My timing is down, my body is used to the rigorous training. When I’m on the grind, I perform at a much higher level. This will be the first time I’ve had back to back fights in a very long time. Everyone watching this fight will see the difference in my fighting style.

On fighting at the StubHub Center

“The StubHub Center is probably my favorite venue to fight in. The fans are incredible. Everyone has a great seat and you can feel the energy from the crowd while you’re fighting. It’s like there right on top of you. For some reason the StubHub Center brings out the warrior spirit in everyone. It’s a great place to fight!”

On training camp…

“Training camp has been going great. Like I mentioned before, when you stay active, everything flows a lot smoother. I’ve taken my sparring sessions to a new level. I’m quicker on my feet and my timing is spot on. My dad Ruben who trains me, is really happy with my progress. Everything has come together really nice. It’s time to go to war!”

By " it's time to go to war!", does he mean it's time to pounce on an unranked guy with only 3 knockouts, who was just knocked out,in his last fight, by Joselito? Than I guess it's time to go to war.

Oh and God, please forgive those who are responsible for Vic fighting again.

Guerrero should be ashame of himself, our boy Albert Herrera fought two close fight with this so call assasin Aaron Martinez. What does Guerrero gain in fighting Martinez.. What is Al Haymon doing.

What's up riverside. It looks like your boy was only a point or two from beating Martinez . Premier boxing champions should not feature fights like this if their name is premier boxing champions. Haymon should give us Floyd vs Thurman , Porter vs Broner at no catchweight, rematch Garcia vs Herrera ,wilder vs potvetkin,LSC vs rigo. The PAC league will suffer if they don't fight boxers from other outfits.

This is called, "Career Repair", when a fighter has been at the top or near the top, a multiple Champion, or a solid winner who accumulates 2 or more loses at the top level. They get demoted to the " Back on track tour". Irrespective of managers and promoters, this has been a mainstay maneuver of big names since the beginning of time. Canelo gets the ultra soft Kirkland and Angulo after losing to Floyd, and get praised for it. Manny gets an almost shot Rios and the unheralded Algieri after getting stopped by Marquez. Bradley got South American dirty fighter Chavez who was just starched by Thurman ( and still gets a draw). After losing again to Manny. Marquez gets the hard boozing Alvarado after losing to Bradley. (Alvarado apologizes in tears for his DUI and dope charge life style while showing his softer side to the public). Berto and Soto get each other in a do or die matchup to advance after losing to Guerrero and Maidana. Soto advances, gets starched by Thurman and Berto rebounds by getting Josesito who got crushed by a couple of fighters. The rest, Donaire, a faded Darchynya and guys of similar status just get recycled. Andre Ward gets a guy no one heard of after virtually getting blackballed from boxing for two years. When Manny gets his shoulder fixed do you think he's going to be matched tough? Unless Floyd gets dragged out of mothballs they will put him in with another grape that just turned sour. Just like the supermarkets reduce pricing on meat, fruit, and veggies a day after the shelf life expires, it looks OK all wrapped up with the bright red sticker on the package but all manner of microbes, fungus and molds are having their way with the expired product through the invisible process of biological entropy. I'm not saying this for Al Haymon's sake. Haymon can buy a thousand mouthpieces. I don't promote and cheer for promoters like some folks do ( bless your hearts ).... I get excited by watching the fighters as an avid fight fan. Not as some non paid booster for a corporation or business that doesn't even know my name, or send me free tickets. I have Top rank, Golden Boy, Pacman, Froch and PBC alerts (among others) on my facebook page so I don't miss anything. This practice of demoting fighters to face an expired product has been the heart and soul of rejuvenating the careers of boxers since the beginning of the sport. ( hollar at a few stories by former fight fixer supreme and jazz pianist Charles Farrell in your spare time) The fighters core fans and followers love it, while we hardcore purists hate it. Doesn't make it right, but it extends or at least maintains a boxers fandbase a little longer than running the guy through the withering gauntlet of the unmercifully efficient top challengers. If Guerrero wins this in good fashion he will return. If he struggles then he will be used as cannon fodder for the successful fighters. Does it stink, depends on how big a fan you are, does it happen, you bet.... on a global scale Just my two cents and another perspective.

This is call tsAH's bullsyetting. What has happened to the Cali Ghost that he needs a career-repair scrap? If Da Manny fights again, it would be against a top-5 opponent who will test him. Or it will be straight to Lil Floyd or Amir Khan or Sadam Ali for a $100mil+ payday. Real fighters don't bullsyet with marshmallows and tomato cans. Holla!

For one thing Pac didn't even make 100 million fighting with Floyd. Once Top Rank, Uncle Sam, and his home government get their share, he will have less than that. Number two, Pac has already went straight to REHAB after losing to Marquez, this evident when he was given Algieri and Rios, after the KO loss... To get his confidence back and an opportunity to complete a test run to make sure he was 100%. why do you think the PPV numbers were so low for both of those fights....barely making one third of the viewership Floyd earned for fighting Guererro and Maidana each. The truth is... EVERY fighter competes with a mix of good and bad fighters...especially when they lose, .....they get soft touches like Rios and Angulo.... Don't act like you are shocked by the concept.

Yep, RS, you read my smirk right. I pretty much agree with BS and D2's below/above comments on this. Whilst Robert has had a pretty distinguished career, and a few tough fights recently, this seems to be nothing more than target practice and some easy cash.

Shows you what you know about taxing. The home government doesn't get a share. Money Manny didn't make over &200 mil. After tsAH, Uncle Sam, the hanger ons, the hos, the lawyers and the lawsuit get their share he will have less than that. What is this? Where did that syet come from? I know how the money works. Holla!

Guerrero has taken a lot of punishment the last few fights so I do not have a problem with him taking an easier opponent. However, this one is a bit degrading. Putting him in there with Berto or Alexander would have been a more exciting fight against a well known opponent and little risk health wise. I can see both sides point of view

It's a very delicate situation. If he goes in with another world beater, he may lose again which would cause his stock to plummet. That's just the reality of the boxing landscape at the moment. I may be wrong, but there doesn't seem to be that same damaging effect with every loss in the UFC. There still is in boxing, unfortunately. And the best way to erase the effects of a loss, mentally as well as in the public consciousness, is to return with a fiery performance. So it's a good move for him. And the more wins he can rack up, look great, the greater the demand will be for him. If done right, then Berto and Guerrero rematch could be a big draw.

-Radam G :

If you won't then I will.
Do it and expose yourself. You remind me of GOAT Ali and Pete Seward back in da day. They were always talking syet and jive and forgetting half of it. But when you expose the archives -- video and voice recording -- to them, they would go: "Dang! I didn't realize I said all that." Syet always come back to bite cha! Holla!

Either way, his stock goes down. When Berto was losing scraps and stock, Trainer Hunter didn't dare match him soft. It is a long history of elite pugs not being matched soft because of losses or time off. Neither GOAT Ali or Doc VK were matched soft after being out for a prolong time. Also after being out for several prolong times, Sugar Ray Leonard was never matched soft. It is another myth/lie that after elite pugs are out for a bit, they come back and get a soft scrap. History and the actuality of the reality says otherwise. Holla!

This is not a delicate situation. This fight is not even a tuneup. This is even worse than Leo Santa Cruz fighting his sparring partners and calling it a professional bout. This opponent was knocked out in his last fight and he is not even ranked in the top 50, not the top 100,not the top 200 not the top 300. If everyone thought Garcia vs Salka was a mismatch that Garcia hadn't recovered from , Salka was ranked in the top 70. These types of mismatches should be off tv and not talked about. LSC gets booed from Mexican fans now. LSC is not happy about it and it's all because of soft opposition. He will be ridiculed by boxing fans for this one. Hell, victor Ortiz and Jose Luis Castillo are ranked in the top 100, this opponent is not top 500.

Whatever I said back then RG doesn't change the truth today, and my credibility stands for itself. But I really don't think I'm so important that anyone really cares to check , however my posts regarding Rios can be found between threads 190 through about 199 ( the month of November 2013 ). My posts are surprising consistent with most of the TSS at the time, there isn't much excitement regarding the stale match up between Pac and Rios, ....most of us are trying to decide if the fight is worth buying because its an obvious mismatch. I'm always speaking of Algieri in a negative way ( although he's done really well considering his lack of boxing experience, the kid is tough minded and works hard ) But he was never going to be a threat to Pac and the Cinderella story of his rise to fame and glory was just another fairytale. I simply come here to express my thoughts and relax, I'm not going to post a legal brief of suppositions to defend myself from (pardon the term) a known Joker like yourself. I already work 8-10 hours a day. ..and everybody already knows me. Desperate move RG to start lying on your comrads, whats next?, will you be rubbing a few drops of Sonny Liston's eye irritating ointment on your shoulder? I'm ready for anything.

Wow! The true has some pop. No need for me to lie or bullsyet. The archives are legit. Sometimes you are full of syet. And then blinded from the eyes to the neurons. Hehehe! Chillax! That 8-10 work musta' been a bytch! I have to think of something better next. Hehehe! Ointment on the shoulder was weak. Well said Shadow. It is a delicate situation. In no other sport does a loss weigh as heavily on an athletes career. And there's not a single fighter or promoting outfit in existence that doesn't toss out the occasional keep busy or career resuscitating fight in order to keep a fighter on the plus side of the equation. Despite all the Haymon hyperphobia, I'm looking forward to this weeks offerings on PBC. Cheers.

Even Algieri who was beat up and embarrassed in his last fight is coming back into a hard fight. If Robert needs a confidence builder at this stage of the game than why not fight an opponent in the top 50 or even the top 100. His opponent is not even in the top 300. It should not be the featured bout. Besides the weird ring entrances ,lack of ring card girls and free tickets given away to the PBC events by 1iota. What is PBC doing that is so different than the rest of boxing. The match-ups have mostly been mediocre and the ones that were matched well were due to purse bids/mandatory.

-brownsugar :

Haymon is funding this himself so we will see were this is leading. Personally I'm not excited about the Guerrero fight. But I've enjoyed most of the matchups. Really looking forward to Broner/Porter.

-stormcentre :

So, perhaps the real question is then . . is Guerrero really worthy of some rubbishing with this next fight. Or does he deserve an easy bout?

-King Beef :

You gotta be able to see both sides of this, of course this is waaaay on the soft end of the spectrum, and like Amayseng said they could've got one of those "tactically picked" fighters where the Ghost may have an advantage, and not at risk of taking more heavy "Thurman" type damage, but maybe those type fighters weren't available..who knows. I understand them wanting to get sort of a sure thing win to get mentally back on track, but at least have some intrigue as to whom the winner will be.

-deepwater2 :

The. Opponent isn't ranked in the 400. Way soft means a wet puddle. Get a damn opponent in the top 50.if the paid hooker goes 3 ,it's a lose lose for old looking Guerrero .

lol, It is a lose lose, there must be some extra pressure for that 'W', That Thurman loss must have broke the Ghost more than he let on
