Brilliant news. Wonder how Canelo feels getting bumped out of his own native Mexican Cinco de Mayo weekend slot by Floyd? Hopefully his feelings about that manifest themselves as frustration and controlled anger when in with Mr. Mandingo.

Canelo is going to need all of the "controlled anger" and viciousness inside of him against Kirkland, who just may be, in ring attitude and temperament, as close to a pre-Trevor Berbick version of Mike Tyson as has climbed into the ring since that time. He punches with bad intentions and referees commands rarely mean anything to him. Remember him driving right through referee Steve Smoger when Smoger attempted to push him away from a dazed Glen Tapia, then punching over the top of Smoger's left shoulder when he mistakenly turned away from Kirkland and draped himself over Tapia, pinning him on the ropes and leaving him defenseless for Kirkland's powerful left, which crashed against Tapia's jaw and sent him to the hospital. Alvarez was not going to beat Floyd Mayweather when they fought, but $$$May wasn't a threat to do physical harm to him. Kirkland CAN hurt him. He can hurt anybody he can hit. The chances are, however, Kirkland will only have the first few rounds to do his damage. After that, and just like Tyson or the Tyson character in "Mike Tyson's Punchout," he will wind down quickly and find himself on the receiving end of too many punches. Alvarez should win by a TKO somewhere around the seventh round. -Randy G.

I still think this will be a better fight than MayPac...I have a hard time imagining that this one will go the distance. Mandingo is going to come out guns blazing. Then the mental game will come to play: can Canelo settle down, adjust and take it back to Kirkland (I wager "yes"), and then will Kirkland, in turn, be able to make his own adjustments and turn the tide back against Canelo (hmmmmm...) Two offensive fighters. Neither particularly fleet of foot. Bad intentions all around. This will be the real deal!

In my view Kirkland is showing up for a paycheck. He hasn't done jack since he beat Angulo whenever that was. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets caught with a gun in his car and goes to jail long before the first bell. If the fight comes off Canelo will stop James with the first hard punch he lands.

As much as I like the match-up, I wish Canelo had a chance to Face Kirkland when he was primed, tuned up and ready to go and not with over a year off out of the ring... Even the most discipline fighter (which we know James isn't) can balloon up in weight or show big signs of ring rust with that much time off....

Hehehehehe! Don't be so cold, tR! Now that was just plain, old rude. Maybe the fourth or fifth punch that Canelo lands. Holla!

Agreed 100%. This fight will not go 4 rounds. Kirkland walks straight in and Canelo has thunder and speed with his combinations. In fact it may be a first round stoppage.

Well that is Kirkland's fault for being in the position he is in. And it is gonna show when he is stomped early.

-SouthPaul :

Kirkland's an unstable lug head. I'm disappointed he even got the opportunity. Hopefully Canelo doesn't get caught with the punchers chance shot. Cotto vs Canelo is the real deal.
