THE WAITING GAME Team Golovkin Hasn't Heard From Team Cotto

Tom-Loeffler

K2's Tom Loeffler, the US-based promoter for Gennady Golovkin, told me he hadn’t heard from Team Cotto, about a unification fight, days after he and I spoke about Team Golovkins’ hunger to tangle with the Puerto Rican in the near future.

“I have nothing but respect for Cotto and his people,” Loeffler told me today, at MSG, before the Klitschko-Jennings presser. But, he said, he’s basically like all of us, in waiting mode, for what Floyd chooses to do.

Floyd is the A side Godzilla, and can wave a wand and make a fight with Manny Pacquiao happen…or not.

And if he does, then Cotto needs, or would seemingly need, a dance partner for his next fight.

In June, in NY, against Golovkin…certainly makes sense from a few standpoints. But basically, until Floyd embraces the D word, decision, all of us are in a holding pattern.

That's exactly what Cotto is waiting for. He knows he'll lose to both $$$May & GGG, but against GGG he'll get paid less and banged up more. It's wise for Cotto to sit back awhile longer and survey the landscape. -Randy G.

-Radam G :

Keep on waiting 3g! The eagle is yet not $h???ng enough to may it worth the scrap for M-Co. Money talks! Bullsyet walks. No bread, you are waiting a Thread. When the paying powers that be decides to put out, very loud for the showdown, Team M-Co will shout. It is all about da MONEEE! You have to have it to live in this world of milk and HONEEE! Holla!

I'm not sure that he will lose to Money May. He might shift punch dat fool to death. And Money May is no longer in great boxing health. And with the mad wealth, he's lacks on his pugilistic stealth. He doesn't fool me with his "vampire facials," which is nothing more than on-the-side-and-slick blood doping. Holla!

Wow! You are more down on $$$May than I thought! Have your vitriolic feelings for $$$May deteriorated over the last year, or have you always felt like this about him? -Randy G.

Yes I agree - I am surprised how down on MM you are RG. I think he does an ever better job on Cotto this time if they fight again. Floyd is too smart not too, and I don't see Cotto changing his style much; even with Roach. I'm not even sure Cotto himself hasn't really slipped a lot more than it seems. As, both Rodriguez and Martinez are not really the best gauges to use to see where Miguel is at. Getting back to the title of this thread; I hope Tom Loeffler is not surprised at the lack of communication from team Cotto. Cause I wouldn't be.

Exactly as if Cotto will show up on Loefler's doorsteps with a bright red bow tied around his head and an apple in his mouth. GGG is salivating over a fight with Cotto like Cotto was drooling over a chance to snag the middleweight crown from the shot, gimped legged Maravella. And like Maravella Cotto will not voluntarily lie upon boxing' sacrificial alter until the time is right. And given that Cotto is very well compensated... He may not have to go out that way at all. He can just wait for Canelo and make three or four times the moola.

Made me chuckle very well said, couldn't agree more.

DOLLARS & SENSE There are fights for Cotto which make total sense and others which are total nonsense. Fights against Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez make total sense. Fights against anybody else makes little sense. Who's he gonna' put his middleweight title on the line who won't beat him? How about Sam Soliman? -Randy G.

-kenhissner :

GGG is now interim WBC champ and Cotto should be made to fight the winner of GGG and Murray or vacate his title. Mayweather isn't fighting at 160.

-Carmine Cas :

Lol don't hold your breath Tom Loeffler. Unless Cotto is getting something like $20 million or so  I don't foresee that fight happening. Cotto is at the point in his career where he selects the most lucrative yet smoothest encounters in the ring. I think Cotto's confidence has improved under Roach not much else, it's difficult to gauge.

Yep, spot on. Small chances only that the Mexican "BC" execs sitting in their ivory towers strip a big earner and "BC" advertiser (like Cotto) for not defending against 3G. This game is all about the Benjamins. Boxing sanctions are businesses first and foremost, and Cotto is big business anyway you slice/dice or ridicule it. Add to the businesses equation that some of the most lucrative fights and rivalries are between Mexicans and those from the country Cotto originates from, and you start to see how there's value for the "BC" in turning a blind eye to any mandatory and/or other similar rights Golovkin may have to fight Miguel. The only way Cotto is stripped by the WBC is if he doesn't offer another lucrative fight plan (as an alternative to fighting 3G), placing the "BC" bosses in a position where they're without an excuse and income for doing as they do. And right now Cotto has just gone through the motions with Alvarez to (amongst other reasons) effectively show the WBC the potential of another possible/future Mexican V Puerto Rico matchup, and therefore how foolish it also may be to not allow him the freedom of choice he deserves with opponents. Particularly since he also may be in the running to Fight Floyd again. I could be wrong, but I think if the Mayweather and Alvarez options were either spent or not available then the "BC" and their transactional minds would probably think differently. However, that's not the case right now, and the name of the game is prizefighting. Which is the same as saying; ""making money and entertaining people for fighting, a fee, and Money"". Still, Kenhissner, none of this means that what you have said is morally, principally, or otherwise not correct. More, it's just that none of us should hold our breath on anyone with authority within the "BC" showing interest for a start-up subsidiary called by any name resembling (in pronunciation or operation) an ethics committee. Not whilst the name of the game is the universal language of Dead Benjamins on rectangular paper; money.

Actually I'm up on Money May. I just know that he is a bullsyetter. And I thought that M-Co edged him out in their dance. Holla!
