Cotto-Canelo Done By Tuesday? “Maybe” Says Team Cotto Advisor

It’s the post holiday blues time of year, when I have to search that much harder for good news. So I went after some, and approached Gaby Penagaricano, and advisor to Puerto Rican fight icon Miguel Cotto.

What about it Gaby, will you be able to help kickstart our new year in boxing with news that a legit Super Fight, between Cotto and the carrot-topped Mexican Canelo Alvarez is a done deal? I’ve heard that could come Monday or Tuesday. Shall I ready the Champagne, to pop a cork and exult?

“Maybe,” he said. “Not sure really. But Happy New Year!”

Hey sometimes you’re wearing those cranky pants and the blues is the music playing in your head and it can’t be dispelled, because good news isn’t forthcoming…so sometimes, “maybe” will have to do, right?

Viva El Rey Viva Canelo he's going after the best not the rest and he's not content until he is the best that no one can contest. I want to see Saul breaking ribs cause I think he's got the talent and the power, and his engine is slowly improving.. But his style lends him to following you into the kitchen instead of blasting the kitchen doors off their hinges and dragging you tooth and nail into a room hotter than hell. I think he's got it in him but he keeps the lid on it.. Canelo the puncher would be greater than Canelo the boxer puncher is all I'm saying.

I too woud rather see a ginger headed, red faced Canelo the slugger, rather than Canelo the boxer and counter-puncher. I'm not saying he can't box... But I think he can brawl better than he boxes. He's got the physicality, chin and power to really bring it to some guys. That version of Canelo would be a dream to watch against either Cotto or Golovkin, and I pray that one day this year my dreams will come true Viva el Rey, Viva el Canelo

I think for most boxing fans, 2015 will be the year where their Dream Fights will come true. 2014 set the stage for them. 2015 will be the year. Bermane Stiverne vs Deontay Wilder is just one of those fights. Cotto vs Alvarez will be another. Hopefully, they will both autograph a contract for their bout very soon. We're lovin' 2015 already! -Randy G.

Maybe Cotton wants to show baby boy who the boss is. Canelo has become extremely salty because he knows there is only four months left to build a super fight. Canelo even reminded Cotton of his ethnic obligation to get it on..... " When have Mexicans and Puerto Ricans ever had a problem making a fight"... Or he said something similar to appeal to the well-known sense of rivalry between various factions of the Latino world. There have been some mild rumbling of a possible Mayweather offer but not a shred of evidence of a hostile takeover by Camp May weather. Although Cotton is not bound to Arum the way his regular family of fighters are. It makes more sense to make the fight with Canelo rather than chasing the chaotic pie in the sky rematch with a guy who could probably best him again at middleweight. Canelo is solid but he isn't exceptional at cutting off the ring. If Cotto doesn't brawl or stand toe to toe with Canelo, the Cinnamon haired fighter could end up following Cotto all night while being schooled in the fine art of the TSS. Canelo may hit harder... Take a better punch,.... put together better combinations and be built like a tank but he has nothing even close to match Cotto's amateur background and sterling proffessional experience. Canelo is undone by finess...something Cotto has an abundance of ... Unless Cotto gets old overnight ... He will probably outbox Canelo while dancing a mean salsa at the same time I can't imagine Cotton trading to much with a guy who will be as big as a light heavy on fight night.

What I want to know is, if the deal is (almost) done, does the "deal" (which I assume involves a contract) specify an individual date and location for the bout? Such as Cinco De Mayo? Or are there several options in that respect? In other words does the agreement lock Mayweather and Pacquaio, for the same timeframe/weekend, out?

The latest on the web says its about money. Cotton is the boss and he wants to get paid like one

someone is dragging their feet this is a fantastic matchup that will sell big time in May.... Both should be rewarded handsomely

This is one i'm looking forward to in 2015, and you're right Aseng someone is certainly dragging their feet. Who's got history of being a diva...?

Isn't that a word Sergio Martinez once used, "Diva" ?
