Pacquiao: “I Could Easily Fight At 140 My Next Fight”

Pacquiao Blog Part 4: Friday, November 14

Question for Manny Pacquiao: Freddie Roach has been quoted lately saying Manny could fight at 140 or even 135 for the right fight. What are your thoughts and what does the future hold for you in boxing?

“The reason we are fighting this fight at 144 pounds is because I wanted to see how I performed at a lower weight. If I do well, I could easily fight at 140 for my next fight. !40 is the weight I walk around at when I’m not training for a fight. So that is no issue and even 135 would be easy for me to make.

“The real question is how do I feel and how do I perform when I return to those lower weights?

“I could be faster than when I fought at welterweight and super welterweight and if my power remains the same, I may be able to score more knockouts at lower weights. I weighed 138 when I knocked out Ricky Hatton, 142 when I stopped Oscar De La Hoya and 144 when I scored a TKO of Miguel Cotto. Many people consider those fights some of my best, so why not go back down if that is where the bigger and better fights are going to be fought?

“But now I am the WBO welterweight champion and my only focus is to defend that title. I didn’t realize how much it meant to me until I won it back in my rematch against Timothy Bradley. I love being a world champion and i have poured my heart and soul into this training camp. My sparring mates have been the biggest and best I have ever had in training I am leaving nothing to chance when I step into the ring against Chris Algieri on November 22. I want to win this fight so badly and I want to win it in a way that will have boxing fans on their feet screaming and cheering. I owe that to my fans and I owe that to boxing. Today is my last day of training camp. I will spar four rounds, work the bags, shake out and then fly to Macau for Fight Week. I have been at weight for since late October. I am ready to battle!”

Under The Lights: Pacquiao-Algieri debuts Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11:45 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

Pacquiao vs. Algieri happens Saturday, November 22 live on pay-per-view beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Seems Pac has that fire back, he is maturing and realizes the window is slowly closing. 140 means he can beat the brakes off of Broner or even Garcia. I would like to see both

What a waste of time

Bring on Pac Vs Matthysse. Please.

I agree. But that is what we will see. Another guy who comes cheap and we have the Roy Jones angle to get 50K more buys or so. #yawn Top Rank got that nice Chinese hustle going on so we won't see Pacquiao in many more tough fights until Bob Arum feels Bud Crawford is ready to put the nail in the coffin. In Arum's business only mind -- he's admitted he doesn't give a flying **** what hardcore fans think -- you milk the cow till it's dry and then you cash it out. It makes no sense to cash him out to anyone outside his stable.

Blood thirsty animal! LOL

Pacquiao could probably make lightweight. That's why his streaks are so historic. A "great" fighter!

I'd like to see him fight Maidana and see how it goes compared to Maidana vs Mayweather !

Those would be two great fights if they ever happen. I'd love to see Broner fight Pacquiao. I can already imagine the 2 month hype-show on the road touring the world. I can imagine the reception the obnoxious and mouthy All Belly would receive on the other side of the planet. If he thought Maidana punches hard wait till he see's what Pac's punches pack!

If Pacman ever fought and beat up Broner (like Manny wouldn't win) it would probably be the end for Broner. And that would be sad for the sport because then - even if he wore his existing set of thick gold necklaces and went out and "acquired" some new heavy duty chains to compliment them - boxing would still probably still suffer; as, beat up Broner probably wouldn't be able to take Boxing to the next level with such a bruised ego and hide. Know what I'm saying man? That stuff is right here and going down now. :)

You're right.... Broner would probably lose but he's fast enough an hits hard enough to possibly present problems to Manny I think the buildup and the event would be huge fun for a lot of reasons... Also a fight with DannyGarcia could be interesting as well...... At 147 I'd favor Garcia.

You beat me to it, I would also love to see that. Not so much for comparison, since it probably wouldn't mean much w/ regards to how they would fare against one another, although it'd be interesting to see who sold more ppv's if that hypothetical fight happened. It would have the potential to be a be a FOTY, but as much as I like Chino, I could see Pac dominating for most of the 12 rounds.

You know your stuff pretty good rdy_27, for someone who just started following the sport last year ! It could be a FOTY couldn't it, if eveyone could get together to get it made !

From day one, I called Broner a flustering puncher, not a speedy one. He would be easy picking. And he would get kayoed early because of his chin and overly wide stance. And he leaps in to jab to the body, and would get tore up countered with a right hook off Da Manny missile jab. Broner will have to then to rehab. He'd be ruined. Holla!

Thanks I know a little, but just enough to make educated guesses. It could very well be a foty, but even if it didn't turn out that way It'd still be a heck of a fight, Pacquiao and Chino bring it!! And yeah, it's a shame it probably won't happen.

I'm just a little worried because ever since Broner released that video of himself (the RG posted) all pimped out and talking bout how he's taking boxing to another level (know what I am saying) I have had visions of Adrien that are akin to Atlas carrying the earth on his back. The only difference being Broner has boxing up there on his shoulders - so he (not Top Rank, Golden Girl, or Haymen) can take it to another level. And for Broner, even without all those gold chains and crack, that's a lot of weight and pressure. For boxing, that's also a lot of risk. Heck, I'm not even sure what level boxing was at before Broner started to dead lift it up to another level. But if Manny knocks Broner out then we'll never know. Unless of course Manny has already elevated boxing to a higher level than Broner and his chains/crack can - but that's another story.
