Julio Diaz In the Mix To Fight Provodnikov

Pssst, hey. You. Wanna make half a mill? Nah, I’m not kiddin…Whaddya gotta do? Simple. Get on a plane, train, whatever…to Russia. With gloves. And fight “the Siberian Rocky.” Whaddya say, you want the dough?

A version of that has been playing out on the phone of Vadim Kornilov, the manager to Ruslan Provodnikov, who wants to fight SOMEBODY in Russia on Nov. 28.

You might have heard that Jose Luis Castillo, the 40-year-old faded ex champ, has said yes. “He is the frontrunner,” Kornilov told me. “And how much does he have left? He just had back to back wins. Do you think Julio Diaz is better?”

Maybe, maybe not. Diaz might well have more left in the tank, despite having lost three in a row. “So, it’s not a done deal. Castillo is a bigger name in Russia. But we are okay with either guy. We can try and push what we want but everybody else said no to a half million and we don’t have any more money. Diaz might get knocked out by Ruslan sooner than Castillo…it all depends what kind of shape Castillo is in.”

why not fight Roy Jones Jr. then. he is shot but at least known and it will be impressive to knock out a lt heavy.

It's easy to understand their reluctance to fight in the states, 3 losses on his resume, and all 3 can be disputed. When you're fighting in your opponents back yard, and you're from a small village in Siberia... It's all too easy to forget about the guy's life you screwed. He wants to fight someone where he knows he will received a fair judgement, I don't think he's offering anyone less than they're getting. $100k+ is a big cheque for the majority of fighters worldwide. $500k? World champs aren't getting that much in a year. Those days when a fighter fought for $2 after going hungry for a week (not for trying to make weight, but for lack of food) are over. Now guy's bellies are so full $500,000.00 makes them turn their noses up and turn their heads away.

Wow! This stuff ought to halt. 'Em Russian ain't paying a nasty nobody and his nephew Chicken George a half of mil bucks to ride up in Moscow and bang with the Siberian Rocky. I'm already hearing all the way in the P-Island that Randall Bailey is willing to get some for $200thou. And Mike Jones, who is in the P-Islands right now serving as one of the sparringmates for Da Manny, is willing to take that work for $300thou. OMFG! No way that damaged J.L. Castillo will be paid more than $50-$75thou. Pugs lie a lot about getting big purses all the time. Unless they post a copy of their checks on social media like Money May loves to holla, believe them not. There are pugs who go all over the world to fight, and don't get paid. [Some are working in warehouses and fast-food restaurants on the night shift near you.] Maybe TSS should scribble some copy about these haps. Somebody is bullsyeting in Moscow. How much dough is tSR getting? That is what I thought. The $500thou is for him. His opponent is going to get stiff for 500,000 Russian rubles, some gin, food and a couple of stank thotties. Hehehe! Watch those optical illusions and tricks of the trade. They are every d@mn where. Holla!

Ruslan has never been beaten convincingly, all his losses could of gone either way, must be frustrating. somebody is getting knockout out in Moscow and it's not going to be Ruslan.

I Disagree. His first scrap could have gone either way. In his second loss, the great referee Pat Russell missed a couple of knockdowns against T-Brad. lf not for those misses, tSR would have won a split decision. And in his third loss against C-Al, he was straight-up victimized with home cooking and jingoistic crooking. Holla!

I really really wish Julio Diaz would retire. This could be very bad. In his last fight against Thurman, Diaz looked shopworn. Yeah he had a moment or two but showed all the signs of a shot fighter including retiring on the stool after the 3rd round with an injury. I wish Provodnikov's people would go a different direction and not pick a shot fighter here just for his name.

Good point ... Diaz gave an interview with his brother, declaring he was done with boxing and that his health wasn't worth exchanging for a few more dollars. Apparently giving up his chosen vocation is harder to do in practice than it is to talk about. Even so,....Diaz is still slick enough to give RP a few tricky moments before Rocky catches him.
