Boxing – Upcoming Title Fights, August through October

The next three months should be exciting in boxing with a number of great title fights including Floyd Mayweather Jr. against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14th in Las Vegas. That fight will be a WBA/WBC junior middleweight title unification bout. It is just one of many great title fights scheduled in the next few months. Let’s take a look at what is coming up from August through October in terms of title fights.

Aug. 10th

At Panama City, Panama: Anselmo Moreno vs. William Urina for Moreno’s WBA “super” bantamweight title and Oscar Escandon vs. Nehomar Cermeno is for the vacant WBA interim junior featherweight title.

At Mexico City: Adrian Hernandez vs. Atushi Kakutani for Hernandez’s WBC junior flyweight title.

Aug. 12th

At Tokyo: Shinsuke Yamanaka vs. Jose Nieves for Yamanaka’s WBC bantamweight title and Akira Yaegashi vs. Oscar Blanquet is for Yaegashi’s WBC flyweight title.

Aug. 17th

At Cardiff, Wales (HBO): Nathan Cleverly vs. Sergey Kovalev for Cleverly’s WBO light heavyweight title.

At Atlantic City, N.J. (HBO): Daniel Geale vs. Darren Barker for Geale’s IBF middleweight title and Jonathan Romero vs. Kiko Martinez is for Romero’s IBF junior featherweight title.

At Cancun, Mexico (Fox Deportes): Takashi Miura vs. Sergio Thompson is for Miura’s WBC junior lightweight title

Aug. 23rd

At Verona, N.Y. (ESPN2/ESPN Deportes): “Friday Night Fights” season finale, Argenis Mendez vs. Arash Usmanee, for Mendez’s IBF junior lightweight title and Claudio Marrero vs. Jesus Andres Cuellar, 12 rounds is for the vacant WBA interim featherweight title.

At Bangkok, Thailand: Denkaosen Kaovichit vs. Nobuo Nashiro for vacant WBA interim junior bantamweight title.

Aug. 24th

At Carson, Calif. (Showtime): Abner Mares vs. Jhonny Gonzalez for Mares’ WBC featherweight title and Victor Terrazas vs. Leo Santa Cruz is for Terrazas’ WBC junior featherweight title.

At Donetsk, Ukraine: Stanyslav Kashtanov vs. Jaime Barboza for Kashtanov’s WBA interim super middleweight title.

At Chubut, Argentina: Omar Narvarez vs. Hiroyuki Hisataka for Narvaez’s WBO junior bantamweight title

Sept. 3rd

At Takamatsu, Japan: Daiki Kameda vs. Rodrigo Guerrero for the vacant IBF junior bantamweight title.

Sept. 7th

At Los Angeles, California: Demetrius Andrade vs. Vanes Martirosyan is for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title.

At Glasgow, Scotland: Ricky Burns vs. Raymundo Beltran, 12 rounds, for Burns’ WBO lightweight title.

Sept. 11th

At Osaka, Japan: Kazuto Ioka vs. Kwanthai Sithmorseng, for Ioka’s WBA “regular” junior flyweight title and Ryo Miyazaki vs. Jesus Silvestre is for Miyazaki’s WBA strawweight title.

Sept. 14th

At Las Vegas (HBO PPV): Timothy Bradley Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, for Bradley’s WBO welterweight title and Orlando Salido vs. Orlando Cruz is for the vacant WBO featherweight title.

Oct. 19th

At Broomfield, Colo. (HBO): Mike Alvarado vs. Ruslan Provodnikov is for Alvarado’s WBO interim junior welterweight title.

At Atlantic City, N.J.: Bernard Hopkins vs. Karo Murat, 12 rounds, for Hopkins’ IBF light heavyweight title.
