Who Are The TSS Top Ten Commenters? Who Are The P4P Posters?

BY Michael Woods ON July 26, 2009

Fans of TSS come to the website, and come back often, for the quality of the writing practiced by the best bunch of boxing writers collected at any paper or website, the world over.

But a crucial element to the site’s success since thesweetscience.com debuted five years ago has been the readers.

Our passionate and knowledgeable commenters add so much to the site, with their analysis, and humor, and memories, that it can argued persuasively that at times the thread following an article is just as informative and entertaining as the article itself.

So, we’d like to compile a Commenter Pound For Pound list. Please offer up your TSS Top Ten Commenters, Pound For Pound. Factor in volume of posts, quality of writing, knowledge exhibited, and tenure as a de facto TSS Team Member.

Fire away. Don’t be shy. As if we have to prod you…

Grimm says:

First of all: thanks, TSS, for bringing this site to the world. Always a great pleasure to visit, and an honour to - no matter the extent - be a part of it.

Now, instead of slicing out a p4p, I'll use your categorys. Just being lazy, a few days off from New Years Eve.

Volume of post: Radam G. Hasn't counted, but has to be without competition.
Runner up: Is anyone close?

Quality of writing: The Shadow. Really likes the way he frames 'em.
Runners up: Radam G & Storm. The latter likes 'em long, maybe too long, otherwise a true contender in this category.

Knowledge exhibited: Storm. In depth and on spot.
Runner up: Radam G, who would be red-hot in this category if not for a touch of mysticistic secrecy.

Extra category - poetic touch: Brown Sugar. Always brings the extra mile.
Runner up: The Roast, with a smell of unrivalled british sarcasm at its best.

The Shadow says:

Grimm, you should win based on this post. Clear, crisp, concise and complimentary. And cool criteria, too! (And thank you for the compliment, by the way.)

Totally agree with your assessments and couldn't have said it better myself. You're an awesome asset to the Universe.

Volume? Yeah, that dude is bionic and without peer. Haha.

I like that you acknowledged Suge's poetic perspective as well as the experience of RG and Storm. But then again, those two guys have like, what, five championship belts among them?

Indeed, Storm does break it down in an almost academic fashion, providing insights I didn't even know existed.

I especially appreciated the standing-in-the-corner-drill story. One of the best gym tales I've read. Hope you have more to share in the future!

In that same token, I gotta acknowledge RG's Cali gym tale about knocking out a big-mouth heavyweight in 20 seconds. Had me rolling LOL.

Tack så mycket, kompis! Du är en bra kille! And so are the rest of you!

Radam G says:

Without any jive, but minimum comments, my P4P list is 1. The Shadow 2. Grim 3. B-Sug 4. A-Seng and 5. Hop, who has disappear on us. The Reader of the Year is no doubt A-Seng. New poster of the year is The Shadow. Sticking and moving poster of the year is SouthPaul. Shock and amaze you and then daze you poster is Stormcentre. Being deep with it is Deepwater. Holla back and come back, Shane! Hehehe! Coming hard with slick comedy is The Roast. Old Skool talk, but New Jack soft heartness is DaveG -- I mean DaveB. Jiving and conniving and high fiving is "friscoe" B-Camp. And if I didn't holla your pseudonym, you are AIGHT!

It's almost five in the morning, and I got get my run. See YA! Holla!

Radam G says:

Before I hit the running trail, though Casmine Cas and I put da slam on one another for MOST of 2013, he is a top posting BEAST from the East. Dude has mad knowledge and wits. And yall know me! I'm down with O-P-P, and calling a spade a spade. Da Big Apple dude knows da boxing trade. Holla!

The Shadow says:

RG, Carmine is nice wit it. I'm glad you guys are starting to accept and acknowledge one another.

But you forgot one: Dino Da Vinci. (Whoever the heck he is in real life.) Dino is a straight beast. He's EASILY Top 5. EASY! He beats out Hop the Resident Evangelist aka The Gentle Giant, IMO, in both quantity and quality.

DDV's knowledgeable, has great insights AND insider stories, very intelligent, well-spoken and overall a good, no-nonsense, solid guy.

He's gotta get some props. I just constantly get the feeling he has tons of gems up his sleeve. Salute!

You're right about the Friscoe. But he's been slippin' lately. His trolling lacks the usual zest. His ranting sprinkled with obviously intentional misspellings are funny but they seem contrived these days.

Hope the Frisco gets back to form because he's like the Santino Marella of the TSS - clearly competent but foolishly hilarious by design.

Domenic says:

I pop in weekly and read several articles at a time usually and while there are very several good posters, the guy that brings it ala Mike Tyson in 1988 v Spinks is Mortcola. I'm surprised he's not been mentioned. I actually look for his posts.

Radam G says:

@The Shadow, I didn't neglect DDV. I generally leave him off because he is a TSS Universe official.

@Domenico, Doc M-Cola -- the Universe's 2011 ROTY -- popped up only about 25 or 30 times for the whole year of 2013.

@The Shadow, holla at the "Quotes of Notes." Editor Mike has done an update. Maybe the boxing gods were circling him like buzzards. Hehehe! Holla!

The Shadow says:

Oh, he is? I had no idea. Well, all is well then.

Yes, I saw that the other day, it's pretty cool.

the Roast says:

I put out a top ten list about a month ago and it went something like this,
1.BrownSugar
2.Radam G
3.Ameyseng
4.SouthPaul
5.Carmine Cas
6.UltimoShogun
7.Grimm
8.DaveB
9.The Shadow
10.Gibola

There are alot of new names on my list to go with some old favorites. Some old faves that have gone away for whatever reason, Deepwater, Robert Curtis, Ali, Mortcola, Fe'Roz, Salt Lover, Big Daddy, Anony, Condor, and my all time fave Andy from Newcastle. Favorite poster name of all time was Son of Sam Peter. There are many more names that I can't think of right now but you get the drift. TSS has been the place for the Roast to be since I stumbled onto it the night Mosley beat Margarito. Thanks to EM and all the writers for keeping this place going.

Carmine Cas says:

Good looks RG, our battles were definitely one for the ages; but much respect to you, one of a kind you are.

Shadow you are a beast coming out of nowhere, dropping gems left and right. Were you at the Malignaggi Broner fight?

And DDV, Roast, Hop, Shogun, Grimm, Brown Sugar, Gibola, DaveB, Mortocola all you guys make this a fun forum

The Good Doctor says:

In no particular order:

Brown Sugar, Hop, Amayseng, Shadow, Radam, Gibola, Ultimo, Mortocola, DDV, Roast, Carmine Cas, Grimm.

I actually appreciate everyone that posts on this board because for the most part everyone has a reasonable point of view and some intelligence. I have visited some other boxing sites and at most of them nutjobs come a dime a dozen. It is nice to post in a place where disagreement is encouraged and respected, where emotion is expressed but never overrules logic and fact, and where it is obvious there are true fans and followers of the sport.

ultimoshogun says:

Well, I'll start by adding some names to Roast's list of the gone but not forgotten...#1PacFan, MisterLee, Frank Z, Yuvie, Real Talk, Fistic Fury, and Peter Egley. Just some of the other guys I remember from when I first found TSS. I think MisterLee used compile a top ten list on a weekly basis it seemed like, haha...As for my current top ten, in no particular order, Grimm, the Roast, brownsugar, The Good Doctor, The Shadow, amayseng, Radam G, gibola, Carmine Cas, and SouthPaul. Looking forward to a new year of talking boxing with all of you in '14 and I hope to contribute more often this year.

The Shadow says:

Top 10 in any order:

Radam G
"Thunder" Stormcentre
Dino Da Vinci
Grimm
Brownsugar
Carmine Cas
SouthPaul
The Good Doctor
The Roast
Amayseng

And thank you for the kind words, Carmine. You're a good dude and I wish you all the best when you go to school. You will do well.

And no, I wasn't there! But when I do make it to a NYC card, I will definitely hit you up so we can chat some pugilism.

Thank you kind sir!

Radam G says:

Wow! I heard that TSS long-time missing-in-action Reader Big Bobby Curtis is hanging out in Koreatown, Los Angeles, Cali., drunk like a mutha. Hehehe! And on P-Islands's coconut wine! OMFG!

Hey, Bobby C, sober up! And make your comeback in 2014.

Somebody tell South Central L-A Ali to come back too before Uncle Snoop King, formly known as Snoop Doggy Dogg, and I have roll on him in his hood. Holla!
