Jermain Taylor retirement plans already in the works
WBC middleweight champion Jermain â€œBad Intentionsâ€? Taylor intends to abandon the middleweight division next year to move up in weight to fight as a super middleweight, and the man he would most like to meet is undefeated Welsh boxing sensation Joe Calzaghe.
In addition to Taylorâ€™s packing on the pounds to go after Calzaghe, in part because of the difficulty heâ€™s had in making the 160 lb. limit, he also, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, plans to throw in the towel and retire from boxing by August of 2009, when he is 30 years old.
"Calzaghe is a fight I would love because he's supposed to be the man there and those are the guys I want," said Taylor, adding that "Boxing is a job, that's all. What's the point of sticking around? To get extra, extra rich? I'm already rich, richer than I ever thought, so I don't need to be any richer. I'm going to get out and never look back.â€? Read more at the BLOG
