Calvin Brock, aka the Boxing Banker, is keeping it real
Grand announcements, a savage PR blitz and international telephone conference calls aside, contender Calvin Brock, slated to fight Wladimir Klitschko at Madison Square Garden for the Ukrainian champâ€™s IBF heavyweight title on November 11, has withdrawn from his contract to fight in the $5 million one-night only, super duper Superfighter Heavyweight Boxing Tournament on December 1 in Melbourne, Australia.
"I am pleased that Superfighter has shown its integrity in the betterment of the sport of boxing by agreeing to cooperate with me and allow me to follow my dream and fight for the heavyweight championship of the world," said the gentlemanly Brock. "I think the Superfighter concept is a great addition to the world of boxing, and I look forward to fighting in the Superfighter tournament without jeopardizing my goal to become and remain the heavyweight champion of the world.â€?
And as good old Jake Donovan of Fight Beat was kind enough to point out, Chris Byrd, another ostensible Superfighter, is fighting Eliceo Castillo on the Wlad-Brock undercard, so his participation too is in doubt.
