This Saturday Marco Antonio Barrera takes another step through the ropes wearing the uncrowned title of "The People's Champion" at 126 pounds when he faces off against Philippine slugger Manny Pacquiao. Barrera easily dispatched of Kevin Kelley in April and prior to that had carried Johnny Tapia for 12 rounds. Saturday there is little chance that Barrera will give the dangerous Pacquiao any more time in the ring than necessary.

The accolades were over-flowing when Roy Jones downed John Ruiz this past March for the WBA heavyweight crown. Jones became the first middleweight champion to capture a heavyweight belt in over a hundred years.

Now that Roy Jones has regained his light heavyweight title belts, where does he go? In defeating Antonio Tarver, he beat the top light heavyweight in the world, after him. And yes, Jones did deserve the decision over Tarver. He didn't take Tarver apart, but he showed he's more of a champion than Tarver. When the fight was on the line, Jones did what all-time greats do. He sucked it up in the last two rounds, and clearly won them. By Jones winning the last two rounds, it made the fight 115-113 Jones, or 7-5 in rounds.

What is it about boxing that we love reading about it and talking about it so much? When reading and talking about boxing, the choice of topics to go back and forth on are unlimited. When reading a boxing article, what is it exactly that the reader is looking for? Is it to learn something that they may not have already known? If it's an article about a fight or a fighter, is the reader hoping to read something that conforms with his opinion? And if it doesn't, does he dismiss the entire article?

It didn’t come as a surprise that hardly anyone called.

After all, the snubbing of Winky Wright has become legendary in the fight game. He’s about as popular as tooth decay and as ignored as a bum on a street corner begging for loose change. The guy couldn’t organize a parade of four without bribing family members.
