I love the fight. Both guys have been in fight of the year type fights in the past and this one will be good. I like Herrera here but think we will see some very good action. Its one of those old school boxing after dark fights HBO use to have all the time and maybe just maybe they are slowly going back to those days. Hope this gets finalized.

The question is who closes it? If you outgrow a motherfucka, he stays stagnant but you progress. Now it's up to him to close the gap. If you choose to close the gap and step backwards you lose.

Richard Schaefer and Al Haymon are winners. Floyd is closing that gap. (And he talks to Rich like he does Al, with respect and admiration.)

Warren Buffet is the ultimate winner. Floyd wants to close that gap.

Mark Cuban is a winner. Floyd wants to close that gap.

Once you start picking the brains of men like Buffet, a roody poo MBA from Las Vegas Chinatown KFC Busines School ain't that impressive no more, though it was initially.

I know, yes, I do.

I've pointed this sh*t out all before. I think the absence of Schaefer has spoken volumes about the quality of cards.

Love Schaefer or hate him, when he put stuff together, you had value. That's just what it is.

Kevin iole wrote that this was Ellerbe's one and only shot.

Here's what happened: the undercard wasn't finalized until like five weeks prior to the show.

Think that would've happened with Schaefer? Nah. Of course not.

Schaefer -- trust me on this one -- had he not gotten into this mess, would've had Rigondeaux and Santa Cruz squaring off on that a$$.

Though they call them allies, Schaefer can actually get Haymon to match his guys and deliver super fights."

And I had no idea they would split bc Floyd is a loyal guy but I understand. Haymon is going to get Swizzy free, he'll give him a few fighters and they'll be straight, unlike LE and KB. Or something.

"I think Floyd is internalizing the pain and grief of being ground down to a pulp by the media..

..in addition to needing a scapegoat for the money teams first independent promotional venture.( a fiasco)

Floyd has fought and struggled to "do it his way and cut out the middle man" since the beginning.... This should have been his coming out party.

But they did it with a shot fighter (Angulo) and a co-main event that involved the booking of the most anti-entertaining-entity known to boxing .....Miguel Vasquez. (We won't even speak aloud about who allowed the mismatch between Santa Cruz and his former sparring partner).

They must have thought they were getting a bargain.

And the most egregious insult was booking Mayweather into a hostile interview on CNN. Where Floyd was accused, abused, and refused by the news casting giant and his video feed was cut while the newscaster lobbied the audience to boycott his PPV event right before the Maidana fight.

What a welcome!

So much for free advertising.

Also his 80 year old cut man (The legendary cut man and hand wrapping expert Garcia) was miffed because Floyd used "Do it All" Bob to wrap his hands). And has apparently flown the coup (possibly).

If you notice Ellerbe wasn't in the corner.

Change the team ....change the perception. Erase the past by disposing the baggage.

Lionel Richie left the Comadores... Diana Ross left the supremes, Beyonce left Destinies Child.

Apparently Floyd wants to make some cuts of his own and as we all know..... " $hit rolls downhill"."

Very well told Randy. You hit that well out of the park. As you know this fight is near and dear to my heart for many reasons. As I read I could see the corresponding scenes from the fight in my head. I've watched that fight soooo many times. I have talked about this fight many times on TSS over the years but for those of you that have come late I will repeat a few things. The above article brought up a few new memories. My first Superfight of many to come. I watche a lot of fights on network TV with my Dad but only two Superfights. Leonard-Hearns and Holmes-Cooney. My Dad passed away just six years after the Showdown. I often wonder what it would have been like to have him over to my house to watch various fights, as I came into my own as a man and all that. What might have been...
That double bill mentioned was on free TV if I remember right, probably watched it with my Dad. Leonards hands were a blur, that is very well described. I never knew or don't remember that the temperature was that high in the ring that night. Unbelievable that they were able to fight that hard for that long. Can't wait for the book!

I wonder is Richard Schaefer really wants to join Mayweather promotions, he see's all the chaos that attracts Money May. You got to remember he was his own Boss at golden boy, Oscar pretty much let him run the company and Schaefer did well. With Floyd in charge instructing Schaefer what to do at all moments, will not work! they'll be bumping heads from the get go. Or I can see Richard Schaefer if he ever works for Mayweather, pending golden boy's contract terminated, I can see Richard making a hard binding contract, so he is not pushed around! like today you have a job, tomorrow you don't. another issue With the Cinco de Mayo fight date up in the air for next year, looks like Money May is going to get bumped out of the MGM for that day, and Money May Knows it, I think there is more turmoil than where his daughter was seated.

Floyd has indeed reached an impasse on his pursuit to granduer and incalculable wealth. But he's still a big wheel in the boxing world. He's still rich and he can still fight .....and fight well.
He's accomplished more than any boxer who preceded him with the possible exception of Oscar ( financially).
I don't feel sorry for him .... He's still a "made" man... I just wonder if his empire implodes under the stress of his imperfections and he burns out in a blaze of self destructive glory... Or if he can renew and rebuild. I don't under estimate a surviver like Mayweather.

Either way the media will be keeping a close eye.... Insuring that he remains relevant for a while longer.

Schaefer is stuck ,he is still under contract to Oscar. TsAH is going to have to give Oscar something really big to release the Swiss banker. Which fighters will tsAH allow to sign multifight deals with GBP?

Floyd's last fight failed and once Canelo heads to HBO like Hopkins ,Espinoza will be gone along with tsAH and his influence to put on tune up fights on premium cable.

Floyd has to blame someone. Ellerbe was the ultimate yes man. It's too late Floyd, admit it. It's all downhill from here.

As soon as Espinoza is fired who will tsAH tell what to do?

"Your thoughts would be wrong. Let me name some who went through more strife than Money May: Jack Johnson. And the haters still have not forgiven his arse for luv of freedom, talking syet and romancing and laying much ebony plumber piping into "WHITE" dames, damsels and dolls. Dude has been death north of 60 years. And they still won't forgive "Unforgivable Blackness" for a made-up-on-da-fly law. Old Jack could work dat wild thang , and they couldn't, so dey were hatin.'

A nowadays black Prez won't even give old Jack, aka "Big Smoke," a presidential pardon when tons of white politicians have petitioned Prez O to holla.

Muhammad Ali. He no doubt went through more strife than Lil' Joy Junebug.

And it is criminal of the hate that haters put on the late, great Sonny "Night Train" Liston.

And to this day, the cowards that be have never hollered about the hatred and bloody murder attempts on Canadian Tommy Burns for getting beat by the "grinning coon dark destroyer" Jack Johnson.

And sickos just tar babied the "White Hope" Jim Jeffries something crazy. They murdered the man's spirit with their meanspiritness of telling the Ohio-born part gypsy, part Indian, part white man that he would be never fully accepted as a whole white man unless he killed the "gold-teethed, grinning coon." Even the then U.S. President abandoned Jeffries, since the Prez's nephew was Jack Johnson's promoter and homeboy Tex Rickard. I'm gonna holla because I'm no coward to optical illusions and TsOTT.

James Jeffries was more of a fall guy than Primo Carnera became. The bigots that be knew that a 19-0-2 fixed-fights former heavyweight world champion who had been retired for four years couldn't beat a super-skilled active for 13 years and with 80 bouts -- counting the official one with the non official -- heayweight champion of the world killa.

Imagine the trial and tribulations that Floyd Patterson had to go through when the U.S. Pres John F.Kennedy told him that he had to beat Night Train Liston: "You must beat this convict as an example for the good Negroes," grinning Prez "Jack" told the terrified-of-Sonny Floyd P.

YUP! The "1/2-of-billionaire" Money May ain't going through diddly squat, compared to the above. He makes his own bed hard. And he's gonna get a bad back. Hehehe! Holla!"

Lampley Weighs In On Tuesday Show

I first thing offered congratulations, stating that I believed this installment of the show was the best to date. That is “debateable,” the host pointed out, noting the subjectiveness of such a declaration. OK, then, but what did you think about it? General thumbs up, he said, but “it’s still a work in progress.” People who tuned in were offered some pointing, perhaps even biting if you were the one...

BANG BANG BANG: "The Fight Game" Returns, With More Punching Power

The re-energized “The Fight Game,” Jim Lampley’s boxing magazine show on HBO, debuted last night (Tuesday, Sept. 16) after I went to bed. The show, which debuted in May 2012, is still a work in progress, not surprisingly, perhaps, since it ran so intermittently, once every couple months. Now, Lampley tells TSS, the show, a half hour program, will screen once a month, til the end of the year, at least, and that will likely result in a quicker solidification of what works, content-wise, and rhythmically. The longtime HBO blow by blow...

PREDICTION: Mayweather Will Fight Pacquiao, Probably in 2016

On September 14th of last year Floyd Mayweather won a majority decision over junior middleweight Saul Alvarez. He followed that up on May 3rd of this year with a majority decision over former junior welterweight title holder Marcos Maidana. And this past weekend on September 13th, Floyd won a unanimous decision over Maidana in their much hyped rematch. That's three fights inside of one calendar year for Mayweather, which is much busier than the one or two fights a year he was averaging prior to 2013. During his in ring post fight interview...
